I snapped a pic of a receipt, assigned it to a specific project, but when I looked at the project, the expense was not there.

Let's successfully attach a receipt to the project together, MJ3440.

We can go back to the Receipts tab, then the For review, and revisit the project if it's correct. Make the necessary changes if needed.

Also, ensure you're reviewing the right project tab and choose Hourly Costs in the Employee rate drop-down arrow.

If everything is good, let's perform basic troubleshooting steps. You may have accumulated too much historical data. Whenever you visit a website, it saves some information from the web page in its cache and cookies. These files allow the websites you visit most often to load faster. Not to worry, clearing them will do the trick.

First, let's try accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If it works, switch back to your regular browser. Then, clear its cache. This way, you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.

You can also check this article to learn more about projects in QuickBooks: Projects FAQ.

Moreover, if you want to run a Project report, the available data is on the Project page, including:

  • Project profitability
  • Time cost by employee or vendor
  • Unbilled time and expense

Additionally, you can use this link to manage receipts in your For Review tab: Categorize and match online bank transactions.
