QB backup not install

Hello

 

I recently updated Microsoft Windows from 8 to 10 version and after install, QB would not work.

 

I installed QB program on another computer that still has Windows 8 and attempted to restore from the backup file I made before updating to Windows 10 but after the file has finished being installed the QB program just freezes and won’t even allow me to close it without using task manager to end task. Task manager shows “Quickbooks (32 bit) Not Responding)

 

Anyone have any idea why?

 

The version I was using was QB Pro 2016.

I’ve tried installing a newer version of QB and using the backup file (QBB) with the same issue. I’ve also used an older QBB file (Backup File) and it installs fine but it’s too old to get where I left off before the last back up.

I'm here to help fix the issue you're having when restoring your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) backup file to your newly updated Windows Operating System.

 

There are multiple possible factors that may be causing your QBDT to stop working or freeze during the restoration of your backup file. Some of these factors include:

 

  • Your company name may be too long
  • You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • You may have corruption on your hard drive
  • Your program files or QBDT installation may be damaged
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system

 

To isolate this, let's run the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This tool will help fix common errors or issues in QBDT. Here's how:

 

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. We recommend you download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Once finish, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

 

After that, run the Quick Fix my Program in the Tool Hub. Here's how:

 

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QBDT and open your data file.

I’ve already done this process you’ve described. More than once. The file is a QBB FILE, not a QBDT File. 
 
The File Doctor will not recognize a QBB File, only QBW or QBA, so there is no way to scan it with the Tool Hub Program. I also tried rebuilding it with the Rebuild Data in the utilities from the QB program and it also does not recognize a QBB File.
 
As I’ve described in the question at hand, I’ve used an earlier backup file with no problem, but it’s too old. I have far too many invoices in between the working backup and the recent backup.
 
The problem has to be in the recent backup file. Anytime I install it, it freezes the program after install. 
 
I’m guessing it’s a simple fix and I’ve applied every possible solution I’ve found or have been given to try and will probably just have to deal with the fact that’s it’s lost and just spend the time it will take to redo the work already done all over again

Most likely your latest backup file is corrupt. Chat Support and ask them to fix your file. Otherwise, consider to purchase a 3rd party file repair service.
