Why I am being asked to pay for a subscription to desktop when I own it?  My companies are closed and I'm trying to finish my accounting.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @kysurveyor. Let me go ahead and share some information about your subscription to QuickBooks Desktop.

The new update of QuickBooks Desktop is that they are now subscription-based. So, if your subscription expires, you'll need to subscribe again to make any changes on your QuickBooks Desktop.

Your desktop is currently in view-only mode, meaning you can only view your transactions and reports. If you wish to make any changes to your desktop, you'll need to renew or re-subscribe.

You can dial the number posted in this article to re-subscribe: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please note that QuickBooks Desktop will keep your data for 365 days.

I'd like to share these articles to assist you with your subscription:

If you have any further questions about your subscription, feel free to reply to this thread or start a new post. Have a great day and take care!

@kysurveyor  The short answer is that they want your money.

The slightly longer answer is that ransomware is becoming legal, one small step at a time.

Amen, nothing but greed.  I thought I was away from that with the desktop version but I guess you are never free.

@kysurveyor

You can use the trial version for good to access your historical data. You don't need to renew your license.

@kysurveyor

You have QB Desktop 2021 Pro Plus, not QB Desktop 2021 Pro with a non subscription license?
