QB Desktop for Mac 2019 compatibility

Good morning,

I am hoping to get rid of an outdated desktop computer but keep using QB, as it works very well for my accounting purposes. The version we have is Desktop for Mac 2019, and I would like to install it on a 2020 Macbook. The Macbook is running macOS Ventura, is this not compatible with the 2019 Desktop version of QB?

Thanks for the help!

Hey there, @SD6099

Thanks for chiming back into the Community.

Since your MacBook is running macOS Ventura, that isn't compatible with the 2019 version of QuickBooks you're referring to.

The reason why the details say, "at least," is because it must be that version or newer in order to work properly.

Hi there, @SD6099

I'd like to provide some insights about your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019 compatibility.

Please know that your version of QBDT 2019 for Mac isn't compatible with the macOS Ventura you currently run with your MacBook. That said, you might consider upgrading your QBDT to a newer version so you can use it on your system seamlessly.

We make it simple for you to upgrade. Here's how:

  1. When you're ready, tick Upgrade Now.
  2. Click Keep old version on my computer if you want to keep your current QuickBooks.
  3. Select Let's go. QuickBooks downloads, installs and activates the new version for you. It updates your company file(s).
  4. Once the upgrade is done, select Open QuickBooks.

The upgrade may take some time, but it depends on your internet speed and the size of your company files.

On top of that, you can visit this link for more insights about the plans and pricing: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/.

Once the requirements are good enough, you can start installing your new version of QBDT. Please open this article to see a step-by-step guide and some things you need to know before you begin: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know if you have further questions about running QBDT. I'm always happy to step in and lend a hand. Have a great day.

So the software that I have and prefer to use is only compatible with the operating systems listed in the link?

  • Operating System - At least Mac OS X v10.12 (Sierra); Supported by Mac OS X v10.14 (Mojave), 10.13 (High Sierra)

The reason I'm struggling to understand this is that it says "at least" rather than "only" these operating systems. The OS we have is newer. Are there any other MacOS that QB for Desktop 2019 will work with?

Is it just the OS that is keeping it from working on the Macbook which is only one year newer than the software itself?

I am primarily looking for a solution that will allow me to continue on with the software I prefer at this time; I do have a desktop that is running the software well, but was just hoping to use a more convenient device. I appreciate any clarification on specifically why it will not work with the laptop.

Thanks!

I ran quickbookks 2019 desktop for the mac and it ran just fine with ventura, when I intially upfgaded to sanoma it did not run but after about a year I upgraded the mac to sanoma and in the meantime either mac or qb applied an upgrade and it now runs fine on Sanoma.  I am very hesitant to try the upgrade to Sequoia and if anyone has done that let me know if it works on that os platform as well.

I'm glad that QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2019 is running smoothly on macOS Sonoma.

To begin with, please know that the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Mac 2019 software was discontinued after May 31, 2022, while the macOS Sequoia's release date was September 16, 2024. With this, we can't guarantee that the Sequoia will work for QBDT Mac 2019.

Also, as far as I know, the system requirements for QBDT Mac 2019 are macOS X v10.12 (Sierra) or later.

If you need to update your macOS, you'll have to find other options if version 2019 won't work, such as migrating to QuickBooks Online or upgrading to QBDT Mac 2024, as the MacOS Sequoia is a supported version for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Mac 2024.

On the other hand, if you prefer using QBDT Mac 2019, I recommend staying with Sonoma for now and keeping an eye on feedback from other users who upgrade to Sequoia. You can also post your concerns in the Apple Community to communicate with other QBDT Mac 2019 users.

Additionally, you can check out this article to learn how to find the most common data issues and how to fix them: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Let me know if you have further concerns about upgrading to Sequoia. Keep safe.

so far I'm staying with Sanoma.  But do you have info on the upgrade to qbdt2024.  Is it difficult.  Can I just load the QBDT24 and have it access the qb2019 files?
