QB Desktop Pro Plus 2024 payroll for multiple companies

Our accounting firm uses QB Pro Plus 2024 (desktop) to do the bookkeeping for several clients. We would like to process payroll for some of these clients using QB.  How do I know if the version we are using is capable of doing this?  Is there a way to check if the subscription we have includes payroll capabilities? Will it continue to be supported after this month since Intuit is going to stop selling to new desktop subscribers?  We already have this desktop version and have been using it, we just want to start using it for payroll and I want to make sure I can set up our clients books and payroll before telling our clients that we can do this for them.

You need Enhanced Payroll subscription to integrate with QB Desktop Pro Plus. As I know, you can use the same license code to manage payroll for up to 3 EIN.

Thank you for reaching out with your concerns about using QuickBooks Pro Plus 2024 for payroll processing, Sheri. I appreciate how crucial it is for your accounting firm's tools to be dependable and effective, especially as you prepare to offer payroll services to your clients.

QuickBooks Pro Plus 2024 doesn't include a payroll subscription as part of its standard package. To use the payroll features within QuickBooks, you'll have to subscribe to a separate payroll service.

To use payroll features, subscribe to a payroll service before September 30. After this date, QuickBooks will stop selling certain versions and payroll subscriptions to new U.S. users.

Also, this change won't impact existing subscribers as we continue to provide security updates, product enhancements, and support for your current subscriptions without interruption.

For more details, check this link: Can't buy QuickBooks Desktop as a new US subscriber.

To check if you already have a payroll subscription, go to the Payroll Center in QuickBooks, it'll be listed there. I'll guide you on how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Select Payroll Center
  3. Check your current payroll service under Subscription Statuses in the Payroll tab.

If you don’t see an active payroll subscription, click the Turn On Payroll option on the Homepage. You'll be routed to the payroll site, then follow the on-screen instructions to activate payroll.

If the option doesn’t appear, contact our Payroll Support Team for setup and assistance with payroll features.

  1. Go to the Help menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Give a brief description of your issue and select Continue.
  4. Sign in to your Intuit account. Then, select Continue and then Continue with my account.
  5. We'll email you a single-use code.
  6. Enter your code and select Continue.
  7. Choose to Chat with us or Have us call you.

Thank you for your response.  For me to check and see if we have the payroll subscription you had given me the steps to go to the Payroll Center but I have many company files (clients) that I use my QB Desktop software for.  Would I just open any one of my clients company files and follow the steps you mentioned?  I randomly opened one of our clients company files and followed the steps and it did not have payroll.  If I choose "Turn on Payroll", with the payroll subscription then work in the various clients that I will be doing payroll for or do I need to purchase individual subscriptions for each?  Also, if I don't purchase the payroll subscription this month then I won't be able to purchase or access the payroll feature at a later date at all?  If I have 20 clients company files that I use in my QB desktop and all 20 of them want us to do their payroll, am I able to do that with purchasing one payroll subscription?

You should upgrade to QB Desktop Accountant + Enhanced Payroll for Accountant to manage up to 50 company files.
