QBD 2020 does not import my QBO file for my CC

I am still using QBD 2020 Prem.

I have a Capital One CC, which allows export of a QBO file. On the CC web-site when I select the file type even refers to QB with type QBO.

I got the import to work once, saw my transactions, but when I now try to import the QBO I get a popup (see attachment), that I am using an account type that QB does not support. Well, QBO were supported for the longest time, plus, QBO for CC should be supported as well.

I checked the QBO details, and it sure looks like a correct file, having the correct CC identifiers mating the value in the QB account.

The popup tells me to contact my financial institution, but I know the QBO is correct.

Can somebody tell me what the problem is?

This is unusual, gerdgoebel. I appreciate you for attaching a screenshot.

There can be various reasons behind Web Connect issues, including incomplete bank files or incompatible formats. Also, changes made by your bank can contribute to these problems. I'm here to help you resolve this.

Beforehand, create a backup of your company file to restore it if any changes occur. Then, make sure you're using a supported version of QuickBooks. If you use Advanced Mode in bank feeds, you may need to sign in to your Intuit Account or switch modes.

To begin, let's ensure you downloaded your Web Connect file directly from your bank, not from inside QuickBooks. Here's how to re-download and re-import your file:

  1. Sign in to your bank's website
  2. Find and download the Web Connect file.
  3. Open QuickBooks and your company file.
  4. Then, import the .qbo file.

If the issue persists, review notifications from your bank. They may notify you of changes or the need to confirm your identity. To address this, I recommend signing in to your bank's website. Then, check your messages, and follow any instructions to fix this.

In case you don't see a message, I suggest following Step 3 in this article: Fix Web Connect Import Errors.

Additionally, I've added these articles that you can utilize to help manage your bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop:

Thanks for your reply CharleneMae_F

I ran all the steps in the link you mentioned as step 3.

Step 1: I downloaded the CC transactions again for period May, selecting download type Quickbooks, which defaults to QBO. No error messages were triggered.

Step 2: I did not get any error messages when download my Capital One transactions.

Step 3: I already had tried to switch from Express to Classic mode in Change Bank Feed Mode. It did not make a difference, I still get the same error

Step 4: I created a new company file as suggested, I had not created the Capital Once account, just tried the import (as that normally ask what account the transactions should be assigned to), but again, I get the same popup.

I just have this one CC, thus, can't try another QBO import.

Would you have a sample QBO that I could try to import into the test company?

I am still puzzled why it worked once, then all subsequent imports triggered the same error right after starting the import.

@gerdgoebel  RE: QBD 2020 does not import my QBO file for my CC

Yes, this is because it has been discontinued.

However, you can still import the QBO files by converting them to IIF files. Use our new OFX/QFX/QBO to IIF Converter to do this.

It's absolute Bovine Excrement that QB cut off Desktop and also stopped allowing QBO imports.  Unfortunately, this is typical behavior from Intuit/QB...

I am EXTREMELY disappointed with Intuit.

I paid a whopping $300 for Quickbooks Desktop 2020.

I understand Inuit has to cease phone support for previous versions, but I NEVER expected Inuit to REMOVE FUNCTIONALITY.  What are they doing poking into and changing my SUPPOSEDLY STANDALONE DESKTOP INSTALLATION anyway?

For 20+ years, importing .QBO files has not been considered an "online service".  I don't even get my .QBO files online.

THIS IS A CROCK!!!!  This will certainly influence what accounting software I buy in the future.

The sad part is even though this is an "Import" rather than an online service, Intuit basically can do whatever they want, and they want us to move to the subscription model. And they further know that there is no other financial software around that has the functionality of QB, thus, another "incentive" for them to push us to the subscription model.

@gerdgoebel

You can use the trial version for any supported QBD version for good to import *.qbo files if required.

Actually, I don't believe Intuit's intentional diminishing of functionality for a product that has already been agreed upon and paid for (this is, at least, an implied contract) is legal in California and many other States.

The Quickbooks Desktop product is/was NOT a subscription that is subject to change.

I am going to file a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

I am absolutely convinced that Intuit intentionally removes functionality to force us to move to a new subscription based version. They made that very clear in several e-mails I had received. Of course, we could debate what their interpretation of removing "online services" means, and if it should include/exclude imports. The term has to be rather wage, thus, they can claim that imports are included.

We agree to the license terms and conditions, thus, I don't think Consumer Affairs would even listen to you or can do anything about it. But if you get a reply I hope your post it here.
