I buy cases of product which I inventory. Invoiced in cases. 40 units in case. I sell in units and get paid by unit. Is there a way to manage inventory/sales in QBDT?

Hi there, @ormic1. Yes, there's an option to track these items in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can utilize the Multiple U/M per item feature to track these products in the program. Using this, you can assign a unit of measure to things you buy by case and sell them by piece. Here are the steps to track your items:

First, turn on the Unit of Measure feature.

  1. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click Items & Inventory, then go to the Company Preferences tab.
  3. In the Unit of Measure section, select Enable. If you don't see this button, this means that it's already turned on.
  4. Choose Multiple U/M per item.
  5. Click OK.

Once done, add a unit of measure set.

  1. Go to the Lists menu and click U/M Set List.
  2. From the U/M Set drop-down list, select New.
  3. Complete the Unit of Measure wizard to track case and unit items.

Please note that when you set up multiple units of measure, always assign the smallest unit of measure by what you sell and not purchase. If you buy a single unit and sell by a case, then use whole numbers. QuickBooks will multiply the cost. If you buy a case and sell it by a single unit, use decimals as QuickBooks will divide the cost.

If you need further help setting this up, I'd suggest getting in touch with your accountant. They can guide you through the process to ensure your records are accurate.
