I can share some information that’ll help convert the accountant’s copy to a working file, @MaceeH.
When converting the file, you’ll want to make sure you’re using your QuickBooks’ Accountant edition. This way you can continue recording transactions without restrictions.
Here how you do it:
- Go to the File menu, select toggle to another edition (Accountant).
- Premier (or Enterprise Solutions) Accountant Edition - Home should be grayed out. If not, select its radio button.
- Click Next, then toggle. No worries, you can toggle back to your preferred edition once you’re done.
After these steps, please try to restore/convert the (.QBX) again to a working file (.QBA) so you can start and make changes to their books. Check out our accountant’s copy guide to know more about other workflows.
If the first instruction is already done and the issue remains, we can run the repair tool in QuickBooks Desktop to get this fixed. Let me show you how:
- First, restart your PC to close other programs that can affect QuickBooks.
- Make sure to backup your company file.
- Open the Control Panel on your computer.
- Go to Programs and Features, Uninstall any unnecessary program.
- Now, Select QuickBooks and choose Uninstall/Change.
- Click Continue and Next.
- Click Repair and wait for it to complete.
- Once it's done, select Finish and restart your computer.
That should get you going. Please let me know how it goes by leaving a comment on this page. I'd be also glad to answer if you have any follow-up questions about the converting process. Take care and have a great rest!
