Question

QuickBooks asking me to login to my account

I have QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020 (which I use only for personal finances) and it frequently tells me I haven't logged in to my QuickBooks account in a number of days (71, 90 etc), which is not true, and wants me to login again.  Is there a way to stop this, or at least to have it recognize and record when I do comply and login?  It asks me every couple of weeks or so.  Thanks.

Hello there, @jkburnett52. I know a couple of scenarios why you always get asked to log in to your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Let me elaborate on them in detail.

It'll prompt you to sign in to your Intuit Account every time you open QuickBooks if your company identifier (RealmID) isn't saved in your company file.

Let me guide you through the steps on how to sort this out:

Check if you have a Company Realm ID in your file.

  1. Open your QuickBooks company file.
  2. In your QBDT file, press F2 or Ctrl+1 on your keyboard.
  3. From the Service Information on the Product Information page, verify Company Realm ID is blank or says null.
  4. Click OK to close the product info screen.

Solution 1: Add your company name to your file

  1. In your QBDT file, click Company, then select My Company.
  2. Click the pencil icon to edit your info.
  3. Add a Company name and select OK to save.

If QuickBooks still prompts you to sign in, kindly visit this article for more solutions to perform: Stay signed in to QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if you still get prompted to log in to your QuickBooks, I recommend pressing Alt+F4 on your keyboard, then click on Cancel.

Moreover, I'll also share this article which can serve as your reference to keep your QuickBooks up-to-date so you have the latest features and product improvements: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Thank you for this quick reply.  I do not see "Company Realm ID" listed when I activate CNTRL-1 (F2 key does nothing).  I do have a company name listed in the account, so perhaps that is not the issue.

The other thing mentioned in one of the articles linked in your reply was to eliminate "special characters" in the company address and chart of accounts.  Is there a list of "special characters" available somewhere?

Thank you.

It's good to have you back, jkburnett52.

Any non-alphanumeric characters on your keyboard are considered special characters.

To avoid QuickBooks prompting you to log in frequently, ensure your company address and Chart of accounts only contain letters and numbers.
