quickbooks changed me over to the new invoice format, how do I go back and make corrections on invoices done earlier that day

You should be able to switch back. It looks like this for me:

I've highlighted the two most important things on that toolbar:

1) Be sure to click Feedback and explain to Intuit how horrible the new invoices are.

2) Click Old layout to return to the less lame version of invoices.
