Question

Quickbooks Compatible Printers

1.) What printers are compatible with Quickbook checks. I bought a really nice Brother AIO printer (MFC-J6940DW) only to find out it won't print "one" check. It just can't mechanically do it! Trying to contact printer manufacturers and/or Quickbook Sales has been a dead end.

2.) Or perhaps you might provide what printing compatible language/parameters to inquire about when I speak with representatives (chats!!!!!!). Thanks very much for your time and consideration.

Hi, @uc4me2

I'm here to help resolve your concerns about not being able to print a single check using Brother AIO printer (MFC-J6940DW).

Can you confirm if you're having issues configuring paper size dimensions in your printer to be suitable for a single check? If so, I'd recommend using a custom paper size and adjusting various print settings. I'm adding this helpful link to help you in this task: How to print a single check (brother-usa.com)

I also encourage collaborating with your IT expert, who can assist you in configuring your printer settings and determining if your printer has the necessary Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) toner or ink required for printing checks. They can also recommend alternative printer drivers that work best in check printing.

Once you've properly configured your printer, it's best to use Intuit's compatible checks. You can find them in the Intuit Market. After that, configure your printer setup in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

  1. In your QBDT, go to the File menu and select Printer Setup.
  2. Select the Check/PayCheck you want to print.
  3. Make sure the printer name matches the exact name of the printer you want to use.
  4. Click on Options... to configure other options.

If you continue to experience issues printing checks in QBDT, it's best to contact the printer manufacturer. However, you can also reach out to our Support Team for assistance. Specifically, you can ask if Brother printers can properly align with QuickBooks check templates, and if not, what other printer brands they recommend.

I recommend keeping these articles handy as future references in case you encounter any printing issues in QBDT:
