QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise to QuickBooks Online

I am currently using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 20.0 version but I would like to switch to QuickBooks Online version.

Am I able to convert my QuickBooks Enterprise to QuickBooks Online? Based on the information from The QuickBooks Guide to Converting QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, it seems the convert guide is only for Pro or Premier. Thus, I am wondering will Enterprise version works as well?

Could anyone please confirm it?

Thank you!

Hello @leonhart1981,

Yes, you can convert your company file from QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise to QuickBooks Online. Let me help you with how to accomplish this.

To start with, the reference you included is a quick guide before conversion. Even if it shows the product Pro and Premier, the same principles apply with the Enterprise version of QuickBooks.

That being said, here's how you can start the conversion process:

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Press the Ctrl and 1 key on your keyboard.
  3. Press again the CtrlB, and keys on your keyboard.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Select Get started.
  6. Under Review company file, click Select destination.
  7. Log in with your QuickBooks Online credentials and complete the authentication.
  8. Choose how you track your inventory.
  9. Select your online company.
  10. Click Replace.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can convert your company data: Learn how to import your QuickBooks Desktop company file to QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, I've also included this helpful article about what you can expect after the conversion: Find out what data doesn't convert when you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know by leaving any comment below. I'll be here to lend a hand.

I'm trying to help a client with this, and they keep getting asked to rebuild the data.  Any suggestions?

I can impart some insights on how your clients can convert their QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) seamlessly, Colleen.

To begin with, you'll want to ensure they've updated their QBDT to improve its performance and fix known problems. If the issue persists, I suggest they run the Verify Rebuild tool. This scans their company file for errors and fixes them right away. You can share these steps with them:

To Verify:

  1. Go to the Window menu and select Close All.
  2. Then go to the File menu.
  3. Select Utilities.
  4. Click Verify Data.

To Rebuild:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Rebuild Data.

You can also utilize this link for more details: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop

Once done, your client can now convert their QBDT to QBO. Moreover, I've added this link that you can share with them to learn more on what data can't be converted: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

In addition, they can also check out this resource that serves as their guide in knowing their ways around QBO: Learn about QuickBooks Online with how-to videos.

You can always count on me whenever you have additional questions about converting to QBO. I'm always ready to back you up anytime!

@leonhart1981

Make sure your Total Target is less than 350K prior to migrating to QB Online. Run the Condense Data utility if required.
