Quickbooks desktop for Mac 2021 and Sequoia 15.0

Has anyone who is running Desktop for Mac 2021 upgraded to Sequoia 15.0? If you have, is it running correctly? I am considering either a VM or just using my previous laptop with Sonoma as an accounting laptop only if needed but, I was wondering if the software is working for anyone who has upgraded?

I have not experienced any change to functionality in QBDT 2021 or 2019 for Mac if you upgrade to Sequoia 15.0.

Hello there, @Spiderterp. I'm pleased to address your concern regarding QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2021 and Sequoia 15.0.

Currently, there aren't any ongoing investigations regarding the compatibility of QBDT for Mac 2021 with Sequoia 15.0. If it's not running properly, it's likely because your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, such as:

  • A minimum of Mac OS X v10.15 (Catalina) is needed to install.
  • A CD/DVD drive or internet connection is needed to download the product.
  • Product registration is required.
  • Intel processor, Core 2 Duo or higher.
  • Multi-user Server: Intel Core 2 Duo or higher processor to run a server.
  • 2 GB RAM (4 GB RAM recommended).
  • 250 MB of available storage.
  • Macintosh-compatible printer if you plan to print invoices, checks, deposit slips, lists, purchase orders, mailing labels, reports, or graphs.
  • Use Intuit Checks if you plan to print checks.

To get QBDT to work on your new Mac OS, I suggest manually updating it to the latest version. This way, you'll have the newest features and fixes. Before doing so, be sure to backup your company file. Here's how:

1. In QB, navigate to File, then select Back Up.

2. Choose the folder to store your backup.

3. Click Start Backup.

Then, proceed to update your QBDT by following these steps:

1. Uninstall QB for Mac.

  • Close QB.
  • From the Finder menu, choose Go Applications.
  • Drag the QB icon to the Trash.

2. Reinstall the latest version.

  • Click Search, then Download.

  • Double-click the .dmg file.
  • Drag the QB icon to the Applications folder to install.

3. Restore your company file in QuickBooks.

Does this mean you have upgraded your OS to Sequoia and are running QB Desktop 2019 and 2021 without any issues?

Correct! I have learned to keep a backup laptop and check functionality before upgrading. Once an upgrade does not allow QBDT to run properly, I will freeze my backup laptop on the most current compatible OS and use it exclusively for QBDT.

I hope this helps!

To add, I do not import data from the bank and I do not run payroll.

Yes, it is compatible, @billhdz. Let me provide further details about this below.

Intuit released updates in 2023 for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2021, ensuring compatibility with macOS Sonoma. If you have installed QuickBooks Mac 2021 R13.3 or any subsequent release, you should be able to run the program smoothly on Sonoma. For optimal performance and to mitigate any potential software conflicts with your current OS, I highly recommend consulting an IT professional.

You can find more details about system specifications for QBDT for Mac 2021 by visiting this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021.

Moreover, you'll have to activate or register your QBDT after you install it on another system so you can access your data. Refer to this article for guidance: Register QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Thank you @Kevin_C ,

Your answer is very professional, helpful, and direct to the point.  I appreciate it.

Hopefully it will also work with macOS Sequoia in the near future as well.

In the meantime, I will upgrade my computer to macOS Sonoma. 🙂
