@LollyNino_C

And Quickbooks Desktop 2019 is also compatible with Big Sur and Monterey, correct?

Please confirm for clarity for everyone here. Thank you!

Help has arrived, @billhdz.

Happy to provide clarifications on the compatibility of these versions in QuickBooks. Thus, the confusion will be eliminated.

Yes, you're correct that QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2019 and 2020 version is compatible with Big Sur and Monterey. Just ensure that you're in Release 13 to avoid any issues soon. Since you're in the renewed release, I'd suggest installing the update as soon as you're ready. This way, you can utilize the new features.

But before that, I'd suggest backing up your company file for future use.

Furthermore, check out our QBDT for Mac Q & A for your later reference. This page contains various topics of QuickBooks that surely answer your frequently asked questions.

Let me know if there's anything else you need. I'll be right here to help you with your account. Hopefully, I've clarified everything. Take care, billhdz.

Hi there, @billhdz.

The compatible software for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) MAC depends on what version you're using.

If you're using QBDT for Mac 2019, the supported software would be at least Mac OS X v10.12 (Sierra), v10.14 (Mojave), and v10.13 (High Sierra).

For QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022, the system requirements for its operating system is at least Mac OS X v11.3 (Big Sur) or later.

To get more details, you can check out this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022.

You may also refer to this link if you need further assistance when installing and setting up QBDT for Mac: Install and set up QuickBooks Mac Desktop.

Hi @ReymondO,

Based on what I have read in this forum, QBDT for Mac 2019 and 2020 are compatible with Big Sur.  For some reason, Intuit will not post this information on the links that you are displaying, but there are a some posts here confirming that QBDT for Mac 2019 and 2020 are compatible with Big Sur by a Quickbooks Team member like you.

Why complicate things with inconsistent or incomplete messaging?  Now it's happening again with Monterey.  Is Intuit really going to ignore customers using QBDT for Mac 2019 and 2020 ( which versions are not that old ), by not supporting macOS Monterey?

Glad to have you back here in the Community, @billhdz.

I hear you and realize the importance of being able to work with your QuickBooks with no issues. I'd like to share some clarifications regarding the compatibility of the macOS Monterey wit QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

At this time, QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022 is supported on the latest macOS 12 version. The older version of QuickBooks is not yet fully supported on macOS 12 Monterey.

Users with compatible Macs will be able to install this update. You will be prompted if your Mac is set to auto update. If you update to Monterey but you're not not using QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022 you may experience issues.

To update the program:

  1. From the QuickBooks▼ dropdown, select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
  3. When prompted, select Install and Relaunch.
  4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

For additional information on the different ways of updating QuickBooks, please see this link: Update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release.

On the other hand, the QBDT Mac 2019 and 2020 is compatible with the macOS 11 Big Sur. Just make that the program is updated to the latest release.

Know that our engineers are working diligently to sort this matter, so we can support this new macOS version for other versions of QuickBooks. You can always visit this site to be updated with the latest enhancements with QBDT for Mac: What's new in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

You can always get back to us if you have any other concerns with your program's compatibility. I'll be right here for you. Have a good one!

Please just answer the question - will Quickbooks Desktop for Mac 2021 work with the new MacOs Monterey?

October 28, 2021

Hello, I work on QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. The development team on QuickBooks Mac monitors all new macOS releases and tests all supported versions of QuickBooks Mac against the available beta versions of that OS in the months leading up to the public release. After Apple officially releases the new OS (we learn the release date at the same time as you) we have to again test and qualify everything - as there are often last minute changes between the pre-release and release versions of the OS that also need to be accounted for and may cause different issues across the different product versions that require diagnosing, fixing, and retesting - before we can ship out any needed updates. Our team is working to provide a stable and positive experience to our users who want to upgrade to the newest OS. We focus on providing support for OS upgrades as close to the public release dates as the testing allows, but can only make the claim of compatibility for a version of the product once we have tested thoroughly and have completed delivery of the update for any needed changes, however major or minor those changes might be. Unfortunately we can’t pre-announce exact dates but thank you for asking about compatibility now instead of immediately upgrading to the new OS and potentially encountering issues that could interrupt your workflow. We are working to provide all users on supported versions an officially compatible QuickBooks Mac on Monterey ASAP. I do understand the frustration that comes from waiting for verification of OS compatibility with QuickBooks Mac and/or an update, and that is on our minds as we are working quickly to complete all the checks and testing needed so we can officially get your software supported on Monterey. Others have provided links to check on the most recent updates, and I’ll check back in here with you as soon as I can give you a better answer.

Please let me know if there are any other questions or concerns. You can also contact the development team from QuickBooks menu > QuickBooks Feedback. We read and track everything, and take any suggestions under consideration as we work to help support you and all of our other QuickBooks Mac users.

I'm curious as to why other software companies can provide compatible versions of their software BEFORE a new MacOS release, and Intuit can not. Isn't that one of the primary purposes of Apple (or any tech company) releasing beta versions? So that 3rd party software developers have time to create compatible updates BEFORE the official release date? It feels like QB for Mac is not and has never been a priority for Intuit. This is my 4th version of QuickBooks (since I'm continually being forced to upgrade just to keep using my Mac). I'm getting tired of this hassle and expense (like most other Mac users) and have strongly researched and considered other more Mac-friendly options. I am currently using QB Desktop Mac 2020. If I'm forced to upgrade (again) or even worse, move to your overpriced web-based option, I will be no longer be a QuickBooks customer. And I believe I'll not be alone in my departure. Mac users are getting sick of being treated like second-class citizens when we're paying just as much as PC users.

Listen up, Intuit! Just because you're currently "on top" doesn't mean you'll always be. Learn a lesson or two from other former industry giants like Nokia, Zerox, Kodak, Blockbuster, Polaroid, Toys R Us, Borders, Sears, Yahoo... need I go on?

I've been complaining about this since my first automatic update to macOS that "broke" quickbooks. What makes zero sense is this application isn't anything spectacular and truly shouldn't be so dependent on the OS version. It's not like this software directly interfaces with hardware devices or is a driver.

The level of non-answers Intuit continually provides and leaves their customers in a lurch is unbelievable. I'm officially done and won't be giving Intuit any future business. I cannot have my business unable to generate / process invoices because they refuse to update software or allow it to run when a system automatically updates.

Do I need Monterey to install quick books Mac 2022

JasroV

There's no need to install Monterey to install QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2022, @Implant.

The minimum system requirements for QBDT for Mac 2022 is at least Mac OS X v11.3 (Big Sur) or later.

I can help you with what you need to do with your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2012, @CakeMaker60. Thus, you can install the software seamlessly.

I'll have a way to correct the issue you've encountered in installing the QBDT for Mac 2012.

QBDT for Mac 2012 is already outdated. That's why you can no longer run on your Mac with the Monterey version. With this, I'd recommend updating your account to the latest release. Before that, ensure that your computer meets the systems requirements

Once confirmed, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the QuickBooks Download page.
  2. Select your CountryProduct, and Version in the drop-down arrow.
  3. Click Search, then Download

After that, open QuickBooks and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. Ensure to create a backup of your company file for future use.

To get Product and License numbers, I'd advise contacting our Customer Care Team. Make sure to contact them within business hours to ensure a swift response.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this QBDT Help link.
  2. Select your product and click Continue
  3. Enter your concern in the box and tap Continue
  4. Choose either Chat with us or Have us call you.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Additionally, feel free to visit the following articles on how to fix QuickBooks performance issues and other guides to manage your account:

I am about to purchase Desktop MAC Plus BUT I can't find if the 2022 software supports the M1 processor.

Can someone tell me if they are running the software MAC Plus on Monterey with the M1 chip PLEASE

March 25, 2022

Thank you for joining the thread, @PhantomGirl.

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Plus 2022 can work with the M1 chip. Please know that the M1 chip is currently working on the 2022 version only. But our product engineers are already working on including it in the other versions.

You might also want to visit this link to know what's new in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Plus and its system requirements.

Please keep in touch if there's anything else I can do to help you succeed with QuickBooks. I've got your back, @PhantomGirl.

March 25, 2022

Mark_R - I'm using a Mac with an M1 chip running Quickbooks 2019 for Mac, version v18.0.14 R15, Build 3478. Are you sure that QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Plus 2022 doesn't support the M1 chip? Why would a 2019 version of QB support M1 Macs while a 2022 version doesn't?

HELP!  I did an update to the Mac Monterey version 12.5 and Quickbooks 2019 will not open.

@michellecof

Afaik Monterey 12.5 was released in July when QBD 2019 has outdated. Consider buying QBD 2022 immediately to upgrade your files for $275 or less. Otherwise you will buy QBD 2023 at a higher rate next month (i.e. $550)
