Quickbooks Layout New vs Old

Quickbooks tried to migrate me over to the new layout format and I called to beg to be switched back to the classic format, and they did... for awhile... but now I've been switched back to the new layout and it's killing me.

I'm a contractor so I need to edit my invoices constantly. My customers are always adding work or making changes throughout the course of a job and so I always need to edit the line items. I also tend to be doing most of my estimates and invoices on the mobile app version on my phone because I'm usually in the field on job sites. The new layout does allow editing, however it keeps the item descriptions fully expanded. For me, my line items are like 3-6 paragraphs long because they describe contract work and have to be very specific. Without the ability to collapse the line items in the editing window it becomes this huge long scrolling adventure that drives me nuts. It also makes it ridiculously hard for me to see the overview of the project because the line items are separated by all the descriptions.

What used to take me 5min to whip out an estimate now takes me close to 30 min. It's so inefficient I'm at a total loss as what to do. Also because all of the form fields on the estimate/invoice have become separate, the loading times to edit each and every part have become really long. Sigh...  I'm not opposed to the new layout features, but they really lost some functionality when they made such major changes. They need to make the line items collapsed by default so the descriptions are hidden. It has been a long time and I'm not the only one who has complained and I still don't see the results of all the feedback the community has given.

I understand that you would like to switch the invoice layout back from the new format to the old format in QuickBooks Online, HandyOahu.

Currently, if you're using a Simple Start or Essentials subscription, you will not be able to switch back to the old layout. However, you can switch to the old layout on the Invoice and Estimate pages if you have a Plus or Advanced subscription. It is important to note that the old design is only available for those using the Plus or Advanced subscription.

To switch to the old layout, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the + New button.
  2. Select either Invoice or Estimate from the dropdown menu.
  3. Once you have selected your desired option, look for the Old Layout option in the form's top right corner.
  4. Click on Old Layout to switch back to the old layout.

While this feature is not currently available in the Simple Start or Essentials subscription, we encourage you to submit feedback requests to our product developers. Rest assured that they will review your requests and consider them for future updates based on the overall demand from our users. Here's how you can submit your feedback:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

From there, you can share your thoughts and suggestions about any feature you want to see in our product. You can also provide additional details, such as use cases and scenarios, to help us understand your requirements better. We value your feedback and strive to improve our product to meet your needs.
