Quickbooks Online Connector for Power BI

Hey there!

I'm using the Quickbooks Online Connector for Power BI and I'm trying to connect to the Profit and Loss report, but I only see the basic tables like Account, Journal Entry, Bill, etc.

Is there a way to pull the Profit and Loss data into Power BI report?

I see that there's API connections to the Profit and Loss Report in the API Developer Docs:

https://developer.intuit.com/app/developer/qbo/docs/api/accounting/all-entities/profitandloss

Otherwise, if I can't get access with the built in connector, does anyone know what basic Quickbooks tables make up the Profit and Loss Report? I'd be more than ok with rebuilding the report if need be.

Thanks everyone!

Hello there, vreiche

When you integrate QuickBooks with Power BI, the integration will lead to the automatic creation of a dataset, report, and dashboard within Power BI.

Thus, yes, there's a way to pull the Profit and Loss data into Power BI report. Once these are created, you will be able to access an option called Visualization in the Power BI dashboard, which allows you to further analyze and present your data. If, for any reason, you do not see this option, I recommend reaching out to Power BI support for assistance and get updated information between QuickBooks and Power BI.

Also, about the basic QuickBooks tables that'll make up the Profit and Loss Report, this isn't an option for now. Still, we have a dedicated forum specifically for addressing API concerns. You can explore our Intuit Developer website to find resources and information about establishing a connection between Power BI and QuickBooks. This can provide you with valuable insights and support for integrating the two platforms effectively.

Visit again if you have any other concerns about QuickBooks integration. I'll be right here to help.

Thanks for letting me know. I've created a question in the Developer forum as well.

I'm mainly trying to figure out why I can't see the ProfitandLoss Object when I connect to the Quickbooks Online connector. If I can't use that, I'd like to know what core tables in QBO feed the ProfitandLoss Report.

@vreiche

I would prefer to use another BI app to integrate with QBO. Power BI doesn't support QB natively.

I have developed my own script that has this feature. It has multiple advantages over the native QBO connector in Power BI
- You can extract data from multiple QBO accounts and combine it together (relevant for owners of multiple businesses and accountants)
- All P&L data is combined in a single table. You can also drill down to transactions that make up value of every account, filter by day and see data on accrual vs cash basis. Same for Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Account Receivables, Budget, etc.

To connect QuickBooks Online (QBO) with Power BI, you can use the QuickBooks Online Connector for Power BI. Here's how you can set it up:

Open Power BI Desktop: Launch Power BI Desktop on your computer.

Get Data: Click on the "Home" tab in Power BI Desktop and then select "Get Data" from the toolbar.

Select QuickBooks Online Connector: In the "Get Data" window, search for "QuickBooks Online" in the search bar. You should see "QuickBooks Online (Beta)" listed under "Online Services." Select it and click "Connect."

Sign in to QuickBooks Online: You will be prompted to sign in to your QuickBooks Online account. Enter your QuickBooks Online credentials (email and password) and click "Sign in."

Authorize Access: After signing in, you may need to authorize Power BI to access your QuickBooks Online data. Follow the prompts to authorize access.

Select Data: Once connected, you'll be presented with a list of available tables and data objects from your QuickBooks Online account. Select the tables or data you want to import into Power BI, and then click "Load" or "Transform Data" to proceed.

Transform Data (Optional): You can use Power Query Editor to transform and clean up your data before loading it into Power BI. This step allows you to filter, merge, pivot, and perform other data manipulation tasks.

Visualize Data: After loading the data into Power BI, you can start creating visualizations and reports based on your QuickBooks Online data. Use Power BI's drag-and-drop interface to create charts, graphs, tables, and other visualizations. Liteblue

Refresh Data: Power BI allows you to schedule automatic data refreshes to keep your reports up to date. Set up a data refresh schedule to periodically update your QuickBooks Online data in Power BI.

Publish Reports (Optional): Once you've created your reports and dashboards, you can publish them to the Power BI Service (cloud-based platform) to share them with others or access them from anywhere.

That's it! You've successfully connected QuickBooks Online with Power BI using the QuickBooks Online Connector. You can now analyze and visualize your QuickBooks Online data to gain insights into your business performance.

I value your dedication to managing the QB Online Connector in the Power BI app, @dblosser. Let me provide you an overview on how to resolve this matter.

The QuickBooks integration within the Power BI app is built-in. To address your concern further, I recommend checking the settings in the connector to make sure custom fields are enabled. Alternatively, you could contact Power BI support for detailed assistance on managing custom fields with the QB Online Connector.

I added this article for you to check and serve as guide on how to create and use enhanced custom fields in QuickBooks: Create and edit custom fields.

Should you have additional questions related to the QB Online Connector. Simply Reply in this forum and we will be ready to provide assistance promptly.

QuickBooks Online has a native Power BI connector (still in beta), but it’s limited and doesn’t cover all reports or fields. If you need more flexibility, you can use a no-code tool like Skyvia to sync QBO data to a data warehouse and connect that to Power BI — works well for scheduled and custom reporting.
