QuickBooks running ADR every hour

Hello. I was wondering if someone could help with a new issue. Within the last week and a half QuickBooks desktop has started running ADR every hour. The server it is on has been running for almost a year and it was never doing this. Now it has started.

 

We have a connector on the server which keeps a headless QBW process running and this process is the one initiating the work. It starts a new QBDBMgr process and does a full backup and verify to the ADR folder then terminates the QBDBMgr process.

 

How can I get this to stop running every hour? It is a very intensive process for the computer to run a full verify every hour and we don't want this to take place.

I've got your back on this, Mechanical2. We can run a few troubleshooting steps to ensure your company file remains in working condition and stop the ADR from running automatically.

 

As ADR replaces the oldest backup, an internal check happens to ensure it won't capture the corrupted backup. However, since it's running every hour and is affecting the program's performance, it can be an issue with the software itself. With this, ensure that the program is updated with the latest releases. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Help and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select Update Now, then Get Updates.
  3. Close and reopen QuickBooks to install the update again.

 

If the issue persists, we can run the QuickBooks Tool Hub and File Doctor to see if it's due to network connection issues.

Hello. Thank you for the response. I'm pretty sure it's up to date but I'll run the updater again and make sure.

If I'm to use the tool hub, there are a lot of tools in the hub. Which ones would I run?

I was able to get this to stop by adding a folder permission to the ADR folder. I set the permission for the account which had QuickBooks open to Deny Read and the ADR stopped running. The file is backed up every night manually so we should be good on backups.

 

It would really be helpful if Intuit gave us some way to turn off ADR in the case that we're fully aware of our backup needs and have handled them in a way that does not require ADR.
