Rebuild Data Corrupts File

Quickbooks began behaving strangely so I did a data verification, which found errors.  At this time I did a rebuild data and received a "The operation could not be completed.  No other information is available about the problem" error message.  It destroys my file - takes it from over 300 mb to 100, and I can no longer open it.  I have gone back about a week's worth of backups and all the backup restorations result in the same errors.  It is getting very frustrating for many reasons and I need some advice.  If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

This error originates with an outdated release of QuickBooks Desktop, MrsJetSet. Let's get everything updated and fixed so you can get back to business.

First, I'd recommend updating your QuickBooks to the latest release. This will fix any damaged components and bugs that exist on your current version. Then, you can try verifying and rebuilding your company file again.

If rebuilding your company file took 2+ hours, you can contact our Technical Support Team. They have a tool that allows them to review your QuickBooks and your company file. You can reach them using this link: Get help with QuickBooks products and services.

You can follow Solutions 2 and 3 in the following article if you encounter the same error: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Please don't forget to create recent backups once the issue is fixed.

Please share any progress on this query so we can further assist you.

While I appreciate your help, my Quickbooks is up to date, and I cannot use the file repair tool because it's for Windows files only, and I am working on a Mac.  I did not state that explicitly as it I thought I was posting with that tag.  My apologies.

Unexpected behavior during the rebuilding process can occur due to insufficient memory allocation, MrsJetSet.

To further isolate the issue, run the Rebuild utility locally on the host computer with the most physical RAM. It's also recommended to restart the machine before performing the process as this helps free up memory.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Live Support team. They can assist you in completing the rebuild process and provide appropriate solutions.

Here's how to reach out to them:

  1. Navigate to the Help menu.
  2. Click the Search option and type "contact support."
  3. Choose the Contact Us tab at the bottom.
  4. Enter the question, keyword, or topic for which you need assistance.
  5. Follow the prompts, then select your preferred way to connect with us: Have us call you or Chat with us.
