Reconciliation Error

I incorrectly categorized an owner's draw as an estimated taxes payment. This was after I had already reconciled my account. So now my starting balance is off. Any suggestions on how to correct this mistake?

Hello, DGMD. Thank you for choosing QuickBooks as your accounting software.

You can modify the category and assign the transaction to the appropriate account. This way, you get a correct account balance. However, I'd still recommend contacting your accountant to ensure your book is accurate.

To re-categorize the transaction to the correct account, here's how:

  1. Go to Accounting, then select Chart of Accounts
  2. Open the account and click the View register
  3. Locate the owner's draw transaction. Then under Payee account, select the correct category.
  4. If the option is grayed out, click the Edit button. Select the correct Account/Category, and then choose Save & Close.

I'm attaching these handy articles to guide you along.
