I am helping a client with their computer. Their hard drive failed so I gave them a new hard drive and windows installation. I plugged in the old hdd to transfer the files and I copied their company files for quickbooks. However, I am getting 6000 errors. The ADR didn’t work. Is there anything I can do?

Hello there @jcm10x1. I'm here to help you get rid of the error so you'll able to open your client's company file.

To start, let's ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is updated to the latest release. This will keep your program with the latest features and fixes. Once done, open the file again.

If you still get the same error, we can run the run File Doctor from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:

  1. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub
  2. When the installation finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  3. Once opened, select Company File Issues.
  4. Next, click Run QuickBooks File Doctor. It can take up to one minute for the file doctor to open.
  5. In QuickBooks File Doctor, select your company file from the drop-down menu. If you don’t see your file, select Browse and Search to find your file.
  6. Select Check your file (middle option only) and then, click Continue.
  7. Input your QuickBooks admin password and then select Next.

If the issue persists, proceed to Step 2 of this article: Fix error -6000 when opening a company file.

For additional troubleshooting steps, read this link: Can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

I also added this resource that you can use for guidance in restoring your QBDT files: Restore a backup of your company file.

I'm always here ready to provide additional assistance if you have other concerns managing your account. Please don't hesitate to leave a reply below.
