Question

Regardless of what office or printer we print reports from, wherever there's bold images, they print out with smudges. How can we get the smudges corrected?

Whenever we print a report from any printer, the bolded letters and numbers print with smudges and/or lines (not intended lines because of smudges).  How can we get the print quality corrected?

Hello, rita.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I'll help you determine the issue with reports printing in QuickBooks Online.

First, as a starting level in troubleshooting, Let's ensure you've updated your Adobe Reader/Acrobat to print your reports successfully. Some printing issues are resolved when refreshing your Adobe Reader. However, if you're still unable to print your reports rightly, you'll need to repair your Adobe Reader. For more details, please refer to this article: How to Update, Repair, or Re-Install Adobe Reader/Acrobat?

Second, I'd suggest performing the steps below to configure the resolution of your print settings.

  1. Open the sales form you want to print.
  2. Press Print.
  3. Once the preview screen opens, select the Printer icon.
  4. Within the printer dialog box, choose Properties.
  5. Select Advanced. (It may be a button or a tab depending on the version of Windows you are using.)
  6. If there is a Dithering option, click Fine.

If the issue persists, I'd suggest performing these steps to help diagnose a wide range of PDF printing issues: Test sequence for PDF printing issues

Lastly, if all suggested steps fail, Let's perform basic troubleshooting steps to check if this is a web-related issue. Let's start by accessing your account in a private window to determine if this is the case. This mode prevents browsing history from being stored. Here's how:

  • Mozilla Firefox: Press CTRL Shift P
  • Safari: Press Command Shift N
  • Google Chrome: Press CTRL Shift

Once you're in the Private / Incognito Window, sign in to your QuickBooks Online account and try to print the Report again. Take a look and see if the data is more clear. If it works, you can return to your original browser and clear the cache. Alternatively, you can use other compatible browsers. If the issue persists, refer to this Community Article for further troubleshooting for Printing Errors in QuickBooks Online. It has a list of issues, such as the print output that looks wrong or if you get errors during the process, along with the related articles to resolve them.

I'll be right here if you have any other questions regarding printing concerns in QuickBooks. Have a great day!
