Restoring QB2009 files to new computer after crash

I have QB 2009 on Windows 7. The computer crashed and I have purchased a new computer with Windows 10. I need to restore Quickbooks from a back up that I have installed on the new computer (also on a flash drive) but I can't locate the original disc or product key. What are my options? Thank you in advance

I know a way to download and locate your QuickBooks information.

 

In QuickBooks, you'll have the option to download your QuickBooks installer online. You can visit this link to download your QuickBooks version: Download QuickBooks Desktop. On the other hand, you can use this page to locate the license or product key: Find the missing license or product number.

 

Also, when you register your product to intuit, you can get your QuickBooks information by logging in to the Customer Account Management Portal(CAMPS). If still unable to locate the license or product key in CAMPS, I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Service Team. They'll be able to pull up your account and provide the information you need. I appreciate you chiming in on this thread, @t truck. I'll guide you on how to move your QuickBooks Desktop to another computer.

 

If you're using the QBDT 2018 or a newer one as a single user, you can utilize a migrator tool to move your QuickBooks. This is for up to three company files. To use this, you’ll need to be the company admin.

 

Before we start, these are the things you need: 

 

  • Have your new computer connected to the internet.
  • A USB flash drive with enough free space to hold your files. The Migrator Tool will tell you how much free space you need. Most people need between 150 and 250 MB.

 

Once you're ready to set up, here's how: 

 

  1. On your old computer, open your QuickBooks. 
  2. Go to the File menu, select Utilities, and then select Move QuickBooks to another computer.
  3. Click I'm Ready, then create a one-time password.
  4. Follow the instructions to choose the USB flash drive you’ll use. Then wait for the files to be copied.
  5. Once done, go to your new computer and insert the USB flash drive. Due to Windows security restrictions, the Migrator Tool won’t automatically open.
  6. Open the flash drive to view its files and double-click the file Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
  7. Enter the password you created, then select Let's go.
  8. Wait for the Migrator Tool to finish. Note: This will depend on your computer and internet speed and the size of your company file(s).

Find your license/product keys and login to your CAMPS. Otherwise, buying a new QBD license is inevitable. You may purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 or 2020 with a lower fee.
