Question

Same EIN for 2 QBO accounts

I already run QB Online for my business but I want to add an additional QBO subscription under the same EIN.  I do not use QBO for any of my payroll processing.  So, would this be allowed and are there any other considerations?

QuickBooks Online (QBO) is designed to manage one company's information per subscription, with one EIN per account, KMCkathy. Let me provide some insights on this topic.

As a workaround, if the companies share the same EIN, you can use a single QBO account and utilize the Class Tracking feature to separate the two companies for reporting purposes. Please note that this is only available to QBO Plus and Advance subscriptions.

Here are the steps to turn on this feature:

  1. Go to Settings, then Account and settings.
  2. Select Advanced, then click the Categories section to edit.
  3. Turn on the Track classes switch.
  4. Tick the Warn me when a transaction isn't assigned a class box.
  5. Choose an option in the Assign classes dropdown.
  6. Hit Save, then Done.

Once done, you can proceed to set up your class list.

Furthermore, you can find this article helpful when you run reports by class.
