Should generating 1099s be done prior to closing the books at year end?

Generating 1099s is not a part of any year end guidelines I've found. I'm trying to determine if this can/should be done before or after closing the books.

Hi toni-scoutek-com! Let me welcome you first in the QuickBooks Community.

Allow me to assist you in creating and filing Form 1099.

You can generate Form 1099 even after closing your books. We close the books only to finalize your financial reports and prevent unwanted changes before filing your taxes. This is the reason why it's not included in the year-end guide.

Please check these links on how to create and file them:

I'll be here if you need more help with forms like this. I'll respond as soon as I can.
