Some of the drop-down menus do not work

Product Version: QuickBooks Mac Plus 2024, R7

OS Version: macOS 15.1.1 (24B2091), Mac mini M4 Chip.

 

Problem: Some of the drop-down menus do not work, such as 'Vendor' and 'item'.

Some of them work, though...

 

What to do?

Thanks for sharing a screenshot of the drop-down menus, Milojiang. Visual references are very helpful when troubleshooting program-related issues. I'd like to take this opportunity to help make sure they're working back again.

 

I also noticed that you are using the latest version and maintenance update of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. However, minor bugs and program issues can disrupt workflow.

 

In this case, I suggest temporarily removing and uninstalling QuickBooks. This will refresh the entire software, which can resolve issues such as software crashes, error messages during use, or features not functioning correctly.

 

Before you begin, make sure you have your license numbers ready. You'll need them during the reinstallation process. Then, follow these steps on how to reinstall the program:

 

  1. Close the software.
  2. Go to the Finder menu, then select Applications.
  3. Drag the QuickBooks icon to the Trash.

 

After that, manually remove the QuickBooks PLIST files. This is to ensure a clean installation with fresh folders. Please note that all preferences will revert to their default settings. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Finder menu.
  2. Hold down the Option key, then select Library.
  3. Open the Preferences folder.
  4. Find PLIST files that contain com.intuit.QuickBooks2024, then move them to the Trash.

 

Next, restart your computer before reinstalling QuickBooks. 

 

Once you're back in the software, open your company file and verify that the drop-down menus for Vendors and Items are now functioning correctly.

Hello @2518354 does this happen anywhere you click the Vendor or Item drop down menu (on checks, bills, invoices, etc)?  If so, try checking the Items list and see if any of the item types are mis-categorized (ie. seeing a service type as a sub type to inventory or something similar).  I'm wondering if something has happened to the lists.  Also, if you go to the Vendor or Items lists from the Lists menu, is all of the information there in the list?

i have been having these drop down issues with both the Vendors and Customers since Nov 26th. I reported on the 27th. Nothing is resolved. I got an email update saying quickbooks will do an update at 8pm on the 6th. 

i am really tired of how quickbooks handles issues. they always gaslight me like it is ONLY me having the issue. then they tell me to try quickbooks on a different browser, clear cache, try on app on my phone, try on website on my phone. after i did all that, Then they told me other people were having same issues. 

not doing an update until friday at 8pm....that is 10 days without QB working properly, is really not acceptable.

If you are using a QuickBooks Desktop for Mac I recommend trying to verify and rebuild. This will help in identifying data issues within the company file. It checks for integrity problems, data corruption, and inconsistencies.

 

Before you rebuild your company file, use the verify tool in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to scan your company file for errors or data damage.

 

  1. Click on File, then select Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data
  3. Then select OK to close all windows.

 

If you see “Your data has failed, the integrity check” you will need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.

 

Once you’ve verified your data, you can rebuild your company file to fix any errors or data damage that's found. Here's a step to rebuild your company file data: 

 

  1. Click on File, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Rebuild Data, then select OK to close all windows.
  3. QuickBooks will ask you to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, select OK. If you don’t want to do a backup, select Cancel to continue with the file rebuilding process. nIf you haven’t set up any backup preferences, QuickBooks will prompt you to update them. 
    * Select     Backup Preferences and make any necessary changes, then click OK. 
    * Once the backup is finished, click Show in Finder to locate the backup, or click OK if you’re done.
  4. After the rebuild is finished, select OK.

 

To ensure the integrity of your file, verify it for errors and data damage. If issues persist, proceed with rebuilding the file.

 

However, if you're referring to QuickBooks Online (QBO). There is still an ongoing investigation regarding the names on the vendor list not appearing in Vendor drop-down menus on new transaction forms. The best course of action we can take in the meantime is to reach out to our Customer Support Team.

 

Please be assured that our engineers are diligently working to resolve this issue. If you haven't already contacted our phone support, I recommend doing so. This will allow them to add you to the list of affected users and notify you via email once the issue is resolved. Here's how:

 

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company, go to Help (?).
  2. Choose either of these tabs:
    * Assistant tab and type Talk to a human.
    * Search tab and click on Contact Us to connect with a support expert.
  3. Select the preferred method of contact (phone or chat).

i did contact QB about the issues and they initially gaslit me thinking it was just my problem. then they sent an email saying there was a workaround for the issue: that didnt work. 

now, your reply says to do a Rebuild of the files. thankfully, i dont have desktop version. it irks me that QB is always wanting the user to do all the footwork. empty cache, change browsers, do this, do that...share the screen, etc. 

listen....listen to your customers. just like you...i dont have desktop version. i thought these dropdown menu issues were just with qbo. 

oh well, hope they fix the issueS soon. pretty disgusting that they aren't doing the update until friday evening. im already backlogged due to this.
