Question

Something's not quite right - Please choose a category for all lines with amounts

I keep getting the following message when entering multi-line item expenses: "Something's not quite right - Please choose a category for all lines with amounts". This pops up frequently even though each line amount has a category.

This is a relatively new issue.  Started happening within the past few months.

Thanks for letting us know about this, @Wheat. Let's work this out to get you going and finish entering expenses inside your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

As I've checked here on my end, I was able to enter an expense with multiple line items inside it. A possible reason for the error you encountered is that your browser contains temporary internet files. Too much of it can build up and cause the operation to slow down.

To get around this, we can perform the basic browser troubleshooting steps. I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed. Here's how:

  1. Restart your browser.
  2. Access your QuickBooks account in an incognito or private browser.
  3. Try to create an expense with multiple items inside it using a private browser. You can use these shortcut keys to launch a private window:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If it works, and you can enter expenses with more than one item inside your QBO account on the private browser, you can go back to the regular browser and clear your browser's cache.

In case the incognito window don't work, you can consider using other supported browsers.

Additionally, I've got you this article to help you manage expenses inside your company: Enter and manage expenses in QuickBooks Online.

Thanks for dropping by, @Wheat. As always, you can post here again if you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll be here, ready to help you. Stay safe!
