Split Transactions

This is nothing critical - just an annoyance.  When entering expenses, I sometimes have 5 or 6 splits and sometimes only one.  Is there an easy way to clear the lines without having to go one by one and delete each item that it has saved from the last entry for that vendor?  It's usually very handy to have it remember, but sometimes it's not.

Ctrl-Delete has always - for decades - and continues to delete the transaction detail line with focus. The shortcut is noted on the Edit menu next to the Delete Line menu option.

 

(Note that if you have the Num-lock on and you use the "Del" key on the number keypad, that won't work because at that point the Del key is the "." character. In this case, use the "Delete" key.)

I appreciate the screenshot you've shared, I'm here to streamline the process of removing populated entries when entering expenses in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

 

In your current setup, when you open the write check window and select a specific vendor, the last entry will automatically populate on the split lines. So, you'll need to delete those line items by pressing CTRL+ Delete or selecting the clear splits button to remove them at once. To prevent this from happening again, you can turn off the "automatically remember account" option. Let me guide you on how to do this:

 

  1. Go to Edit Menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Choose General, then go to the Company Preferences tab.
  4. Under Automatically Recall Information, uncheck the box.
  5. Then Click OK.

Thanks, but I don't want to remove that option - just want to know how to delete one line at a time. I guess I can select "clear" in the splits screen and just start over.  Just seems like there should be an easier way to delete one line at a time.

Yes, the key combination Ctrl-Delete deletes the current row in the detail area of most all types of transactions.

Thanks for that. Yes, that would make sense, I thought so too, but it does not.  Ctrl delete does nothing at all, but ctrl D deletes the entire transaction.  Like I said - nothing critical just annoying.  The only thing I have found that works is to highlight each field one by one and delete.  Should be an easier way.
