This is the message I receive when opening my qb file - The file you specified cannot be opened. Make sure that it is not currently being used by another program or a read only file The windows error is The system cannot find the path specified - if you keep pressing "ok" it advances to 100% and the file opens but it's irritating to have to do that each and every time

Where did you put the company file? server or local machine?

Run Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Did you encounter any error message?

Hello there, acl2024.

I'll share some troubleshooting steps to overcome file connection errors in QuickBooks Desktop.

It's indeed essential to access your company file seamlessly. There are several solutions that Intuit recommends for fixing the file connection error you've encountered. You can proceed to the next solution if the first one doesn't resolve your issue.

Here's how:

  1. Open the file once again. This error usually occurs the first time you attempt to open a company file.
  2. Ensure you've updated QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
  3. Run QuickBooks as administrator. You can close the program, right-click the QuickBooks icon, then choose Run as Administrator. After that, open the file again.

However, you can follow Solutions 4 to in this article if the issue persists: Connection to QuickBooks company file is lost.

On the other hand, you might also want to review this resource for guidance whenever you notice possible data issues within your company: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
