Transaction Type Changes from Expense to Transfer When Typing Category Account in QBO

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue in QuickBooks Online while allocating bank transactions. When I start typing a Category in Account field, the transaction type automatically changes from "Expense" to "Transfer."

I'm not clicking anything just typing the account name and QBO switches the type. I want to know why this happens and how to keep the transaction as an Expense if I’m just categorizing it.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

It's good to see you here, @savaliyak4. Before I can help you fix this, I'd like to know which specific area in QuickBooks you experience the transaction type changes from expense to transfer. This would help us provide the exact resolution for this. This time, allow me to share some troubleshooting steps to resolve this.

While waiting for your answer, let's perform some systematic approach to solving this issue. You can begin by logging in to your account in private or incognito mode to avoid storing data cache files that could cause odd behaviors when running a web-based program.

You can use these shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +N

Afterward, allocate bank transactions. Once it works, clear the cache of your regular browser to remove accumulated data. If the issue persists, you can use another supported browser or device. This happens if the current one you're using has a temporary issue with the program.

Feel free to utilize this article to help you sort your bank entries automatically in our system: Set up bank rules to categorize online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online.

You can always return here, @savaliyak4 for additional questions about managing your transactions especially when it comes to categorizing them. I'm here to facilitate you. Take care and have a great day!
