Question

Trying to submit 1099 NEC associated with a contractor I paid in 2013. Track 1099s is turned on for him, but I see nothing in the Taxes > 1099 filings interface.

The contractor is listed as "active" in my quickbooks account. I see the payment associated with him in 2023. Track 1099s for him is on.

Hello, @userjake. We are thrilled to have you join our Community space and appreciate your visit to our forum. We're here to share insights regarding the issue when preparing your 1099-NEC in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you find that a contractor you set up in QuickBooks is missing or not appearing when you're in the process of creating your 1099s, it's important to consider the following factors:

  • Make sure your contractor is active and set up for 1099 tracking.
  • Make sure that the total amount paid to the contractor in 2023 exceeds the minimum threshold for 1099 reporting. In the case of the 1099 NEC, this threshold is $600 for the year.
  • When creating 1099s, QuickBooks uses the expense accounts you mapped to report 1099 transactions. If your amounts are off, you may want to review the contractor payment transactions and accounts associated with them.

Please refer to this article that details the process of fixing missing contractors: Troubleshoot missing contractors or wrong amounts on 1099s.
