Unable to type in Amount to Pay field in Select Bills to Mark as Paid screen

I recently purchased a laptop and migrated QuickBooks Desktop Pro to it from my desktop. There are all sorts of quirky things going on. The issue I am currently having is after downloading my bank transactions, I am unable to Select the bill to mark as paid. The form has the table columns in a 2" table. I can't click in the field, I can't make it bigger, I can't match. It's very frustrating because I did not have this issue on my desktop. I can't find any articles that inform me on how to address this issue. Very inconvenient.

I was told the issue can be fixed by switching to QB Online and pay the monthly fee. Desktop Pro apparently doesn't work on a laptop. Big fail for QB.

Hi @nae 11,

I'd like to add some insight about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) that doesn't work on laptops. As long as your laptop meets the system requirements for QBDT, you should be able to use the program.

Please refer to this article for details about the requirements: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and Enterprise Solutions 20.0.

Also, most of the newly release laptops have high screen resolution. QuickBooks works best with the default Windows DPI settings.

  • Display optimized for 1280 x 1024 screens resolution or higher with up to 2 extended monitors.
  • Best optimized for Default DPI setting for a given computer.

In your case (looking at your attached screenshot), you'll want to change your display and window settings to resolve the error. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Windows Start menu. Then, search "QuickBooks".
  2. Right-click on the QuickBooks icon and Open file location.
  3. In the folder, right-click the QuickBooks.exe file and select Properties.
  4. Go to the Compatibility tab. Then, select the Disable display scaling on high DPI settings checkbox. You can also select Change high DPI settings and then Override high DPI scaling behavior.
  5. Click Apply and then OK.

Then, adjust your view preferences in QuickBooks.

  1. Open QuickBooks, go to Edit menu at the top and then Preferences.
  2. Select Desktop View from the list and then the My Preferences tab.
  3. In the View section, click the One Window option. Then, OK.

Lastly, let's change your Windows display settings.

  1. Follow the steps from Microsoft to reset the default display settings for Windows 10 and Windows 8.
  2. Set your screen resolution to at least 1024 x 768. We recommend 1920 x 1080 for the best display.
  3. Once you're done, restart your computer, and open QuickBooks.

With these steps, you'll be able to get past the script error and get your QuickBooks software back up and running.

I'll also share with you this handy article about fixing QuickBooks Desktop install error that I'm sure you'll find helpful. It has step-by-step instructions to fix any errors you see during the installation process.

Nice to have you here in the Community, @nae 11.

Based on the details you provided about marking your bills as paid, I suggest checking your new QuickBooks company for data damage. This will fix common issues like missing transactions, names missing from lists, fatal errors, and deposited payments showing up in the payments to deposit window. The steps below will show you how to run a verify and rebuild:

Verify data:

  1. Go to the Window tab and choose Close All.
  2. Navigate to the File menu, hover over Utilities, and click Verify Data.
  3. If you receive any specific error message like "Your data has lost integrity," then you'll want to follow the steps below to rebuild your data.

Rebuild data:

  1. Select File, Utilities, then Rebuild Data.
  2. Back up your company files to start the rebuild process.
  3. Press OK when the "Rebuild has completed" message appears.

Now that your company's Data is rebuilt, you'll want to select the bills to mark as paid and enter the desired amount. You can also check out this article about verify and rebuilding your Data for more helpful information.

I'm only a few clicks away if you have any other questions. Best wishes!

Thank you. After I clicked on Verify Data, a window appeared with "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data". Should I still try to rebuild?

Thanks for trying the troubleshooting steps, k_sda.

You may need not to perform the Rebuild tool since QuickBooks doesn't detect any data problems. Let's perform another troubleshooting steps to fix this. We can try downloading and installing the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This helps fix common QuickBooks Desktop issues. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

To complete the process, please refer to this article: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

Please let me know how the steps work. I want to make sure this is taken care of.

I tried the Hub and nothing worked. When I open the file, I am still unable to match to a bill as the columns are to small and I'm unable to click in any of the fields. I also cannot select billable in the transactions.
