Undoing a reconcilliation

Hello,

I accidentally hit the reconcile button before I categorized the deposits and withdraws for the month, should I undo the reconciliation first and then proceed to categorize?

Let's navigate together to undo your reconciliation, Sarah. 

 

In QuickBooks Online, if you have connected your account to online banking, it's necessary to match and categorize transactions before reconciliation.

 

However, since you've accidentally hit the reconcile button, let's manually undo these transactions one at a time: 

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Locate and choose the account you've reconciled, then click on View Register.
  4. Select the transactions you want to undo the reconciliation.
  5. Keep clicking the R status until it shows blank or cleared ©.
  6. Click Save and choose Yes to confirm.

Thank you for your guidance. I checked the transactions for the month I accidentally hit reconcile on and the transactions all say C in their status. What should I do?

I'll share information about the reconciliation status and how you can modify it in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

The C status means the transaction is cleared in your bank statement and checked off but not reconciled. If you want to modify the transaction's status, tap the checkbox to change the letter until it shows blank. Once the box shows empty, the transaction is not reconciled or removed from the reconciliation.
