Unrecoverable Error (1407256492 30058) When looking up inventory items after QB 2024 update

We are getting the unrecoverable error message (and then we are booted out of QB’s) when searching an Item number (inventory> Item list> “look for” search box>, enter).  Seems to have started with the latest update to 2024 Enterprise.  This is how we look up customer part number to our part number.

I verified data, fixed any issues prior to the update. FYI. What else can we look into for this problem. We need this fixed.

Try to run the condense data utility. Can you complete to condense your data file with any scenario?

I tried to verify data again (no errors). I then compressed my data file to close to 403MB (a 39% decrease from where it was at)... no luck. Still same error.

Any other thoughts?

I'm glad to see you here, @derjamREM.

We appreciate you for performing verify rebuild to fix the unrecoverable error you encountered in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account. Allow me to share insights and help you fix this.

If you see an Unrecoverable Error XXXXX XXXXX, it means QuickBooks closed unexpectedly. You can see this when you:

  • Open or close a file
  • Save a copy (backup or portable copy)
  • Select any menu option, button, or link in QuickBooks
  • Update QuickBooks (program or payroll updates)
  • Run file utilities (verify, rebuild, or condense)

Since your QBDT is now updated, let's ensure to create a backup of your company file before we start to troubleshoot.

The first solution is to open QuickBooks (QB) with all windows closed. QB will re-open windows left open when you close your company file. If you have a large report of several windows set to open automatically, you can see an unrecoverable error on startup.

Feel free to follow the steps below to open your file with all windows closed:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. In No Company Open, select your company file.
  3. Press and hold ALT on your keyboard and then select Open. Don’t let go of ALT until the file opens. If QuickBooks asks you to sign in, release ALT and enter your password. Press and hold ALT again and select OK.

For more details about the other solutions, check out this article: Troubleshoot Unrecoverable Error XXXXX XXXXX.

For future use, if your company file won't open, feel free to read this article to help you fix it: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please keep in touch with me here for all of your QuickBooks needs, I'm always happy to help. Have a good one and keep safe.

@ShyMae @KayIntuit @Fiat Lux - ASIA

This is still not fixed. As of today's updates. The app still crashes when performing a search in the Item List window. Please release a fix for this. I have already opened a support ticket about this and a bug request to Intuit. We need this addressed.

After a whole lot of hours, we were able to resolve this issue by doing the following steps below. I recommend creating a backup, restore that same backup in a different folder, then testing on that new restore first.

This is assuming you don't have any Categories created, I do not know if this will fix your issue, if you have categories already filled out.

  1. Open the Company File using the Admin Creds
  2. On the top, Click "Lists"
  3. Click "Category List" (Click "Get Started" if a window pops up)
  4. On the bottom, click the down arrow next to "Manage Categories"
  5. Click "Add new category"
  6. Name it "C1" , and leave everything else blank. Then hit "OK"
  7. Under the newly created "C1" Category, click "Select all"
  8. Click the down arrow next to "Batch Actions"
  9. Click "Move to different category"
  10. Select "Uncategorized" and click "Save"
  11. Delete the "C1" Category you just created
  12. Test and see if it works. If it does, then replicate these steps, on your live company file.
