Upgrading from a qb2019 to 2024 Mac Desktop

I just installed quickbooks for Mac desktop (2024).

I want to load a company that was using QB for Mac 2019.

When I open the .qb2019 file it appears to convert it fine but then it asks for Administrator Password.

I don't think I had one back in 2019 and when I enter the Administrator password that I have set it does not like it.

The Mac that it was on is long gone and all I have is the .qb2019 file.

Any suggestions on how I can do this?

Hi there,

I understand that you are trying to upgrade from QuickBooks for Mac 2019 to QuickBooks for Mac 2024 and are encountering an issue with the admin login in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. Allow me to help so you can access your company file in the new version.

If you forgot to set or forgot the password for your admin access, you can easily reset your admin password.

Here's how:

  1. In the Password field, click on the lock 🔒 icon. You’ll see a pop-up menu listing recovery email addresses.
  2. Choose an email address you have access to, then select OK.
  3. You’ll get an email from QuickBooks that will guide you through creating a new admin password.

I've also added this article if you have a non-admin user who also needs to reset a password: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

I tried that. Since I am using an evaluation of QB2024 for Mac I don't have a license key and that is required to reset the password.

@vintageslots

Another option, purchase a 3rd party password removal service.
