Hi if I have a bill of incoming inventory and am given a total discount of say 10% on the entire bill what is the proper way to do this in QB enterprise and what accounts specifically should I use.  Thanks in advance

Thanks for coming back here, @NauticalJim. You're in the right place. Let me help you set up the bill for your incoming inventory and apply the total 10% discount correctly.

The first thing we'll need to perform is to create item receipts on the incoming inventory. After we perfectly do it, let's set the discount.

Here's how:

  1. On the upper navigations, choose Inventory. Then, select Receive items.
  2. Pick a vendor by clicking the Vendor dropdown.
  3. Select all the items in the ITEM column in each line. Then, click the Save icon above the receipt.
  4. Tap the Bill Received icon to change the Item receipt to Bill.
  5. Click the Pay Bill option above it. A prompt might show stating " The changes to this transaction must be recorded before continuing. Do you want to record your changes now?, select Yes.
  6. After that, we'll be routed to another page which will show the total bill of your incoming inventory. To apply the discount given, click the Set Discount option.
  7. Enter the discount in the Amount of Discount field. Manually calculate the 10% discount given to you and place the amount in this section, and then it will automatically calculate the total amount.
  8. Select a Discount Account and Discount Class. Then, Done. Before choosing an account, ensure to reach out to your accountant to avoid inconsistencies in your book.
  9. To save, click Pay Selected Bills.
