Question

When I am attempting to process a mastercard transaction, I keep getting an error message "invalid amount" and the payment declines. Any idea how to fix this?

I had read online that this may be because of the $ symbol being in front of the amount, but I am not able to remove this. It is added automatically.

You're right, Angela. A possible reason why the Invalid Amount error occurs is when a $ sign is included as part of the amount when processing a credit card transaction. Let's perform troubleshooting steps to remove this and successfully process the payment.

We can use a private browser or incognito window to help eliminate any errors that occur in the system. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If this fixes the issue, return to your regular browser and clear the cache. Doing so will eliminate outdated files or data that may cause system issues and glitches when using the program. Alternatively, you can use another supported browser.

If you've successfully removed the dollar sign and are still receiving the same error message, refer to this article  for other common causes and fixes to successfully process your MasterCard payment. Otherwise, you'll want to contact your bank to find out why the card was declined.
