Warm greetings, kariransom. I'm here to ensure that you can e-file successfully.

The prompt message you've encountered usually happens when that tax ID for contractors needs to be updated because of the format. Let's check the format of the tax ID to see if it's appropriate for your tax form. Social Security Numbers are in XXX-XX-XXXX format, while Employer Tax ID numbers are formatted this way, XX-XXXXXXX.

If the issue persists after checking the tax ID format, let's open your QuickBooks account in a private window to rule out browser-related issues. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl+ Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If you can e-file successfully, return to your regular browser and clear your cache. Occasionally, the accumulated cache and cookies in the system can become outdated or corrupted, leading to unexpected behaviors. You can also switch to other installed supported browsers, which is a good alternative.

I'll add some helpful articles to guide you in preparing and filing your 1099s using QuickBooks.
