Question

Why are estimates downloading in black and white and not color?

Hello!

Estimates and invoices are downloading (in pdf format) in black and white instead of color.  This started today.  I've done some research and have made edits in "edit default settings" in the "manage" gear icon within the estimates but it seems like they're not saving or something?

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

Let's get this issue fixed, Inkcredible Prints. Let's work together to resolve the issue of why your downloaded estimates are in black and white in Quickbooks Online (QBO).

Based on your statement, it seems that you visited the Manage button in the estimated transaction. I suggest selecting the correct template so it will reflect in your estimates PDF.

If you have chosen the Modern template, you can select a specific color below the Design page.

Moreover, if you selected a design from Other templatesthen it is based on the color you set up from Custom form styles.

However, if the issue persists, I suggest logging into your account through a private/incognito window if you haven't tried it. The private window will not save any history, making it a good place to identify browser problems. Here's how:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N
  •

If you're able to see it in your register using a private browser, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing the cache or cookies is the best way to get a clean slate for your browser. Otherwise, using other supported browsers can be a good alternative too.

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for your reply.  I edited the color again in the Manage/Design/other templates manage pages and tried again, still showing black and white (both my logo and the color selection).  I just cleared the cache and restarted Chrome, issue still persists.  Lastly I just tried the incognito chrome and logged in to QBO and downloaded an estimate, still black and white.  Any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

I appreciate the steps you've taken to troubleshoot. I'd like to route you to the best support to investigate this matter, Inkcredible Prints.

Before we proceed, if you're using the new layout for your estimates, I'd recommend switching to the old layout if it's available. Then, download your estimates from there.

If the problem continues, it would be best to get in touch with our Customer Support Team. They can take a closer look at your situation and investigate this further. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue if necessary.

 Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?).
  3. Choose either tab to get started:
  • Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  • Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

I’ll be sharing these resources that will guide you in sending estimates and converting them to an invoice:

Please keep me updated on how it goes in the comments below. If you have any concerns about downloading estimates or with your sales transactions, please do not hesitate to let me know. I will be more than happy to help. Stay safe.

Did you get a solution to this? I am having the same issue, and it has been happening all week - maybe for longer, I didn't try to track down exactly when it started.
It certainly is a strange, unexpected issue.

Hi, Chris. Thanks for joining the thread.

Since QuickBooks Online (QBO) interacts with a browser's Adobe PDF on how the downloaded estimates appear, I can suggest a troubleshooting process to help fix the issue with estimates only showing in black and white.

If you've performed the suggested steps provided by my colleagues above, I recommend updating the browser you use to sign in to QBO and your Adobe Reader to the latest version. You can refer to the detailed steps on updating Adobe through this link: Install Acrobat and Reader updates. After this, download a sample estimate.

Another fix is accessing your account through the browser's incognito mode and downloading a sample estimate, as temporary cache-related issues can affect how downloaded estimates appear. Here's how to sign in to your account through different browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If this fixes the issue, proceed to clear your browser's cache. This process will help the program run optimally. Additionally, I recommend using other devices and supported browsers to ensure everything works as expected.

For future reference, let me add this article about splitting an estimate to invoice customers for partial payments in QBO: Set up and send progress invoices in QuickBooks Online
