Question

Why did my 1099 NEC's file with my company name, not my legal name? However, my W2's filed correctly with my Legal name?

It's good to see you posting in the Community forum, Jennifer.

I'm here to help with your 1099 concern.

The company name and tax ID on your 1099s are based on the information you entered on the Company info section while you prepare the forms. To correct your company details, let's go back to the Prepare 1099 page.

Here's how:

  1. In the left menu, click Expenses.
  2. Select Contractors.
  3. Click the Prepare 1099s button.
  4. On the File 1099s page, go to the Company Info section.
  5. To correct the company name, click the Pencil icon.
  6. Enter your Company's legal name.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Once done, click Confirm info and start filing to continue the process of preparing the 1099.

To help you prepare and file your Federal 1099s, here's a great article you can check for guidance: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.
