I’ll make sure you will be able to set price rules successfully in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @marksoar.

To ensure that QBO recognizes your price rules, make sure your price rule configurations are accurate. Double-checking your configurations can help you avoid any potential errors.

If you have checked and verified that all settings are correct, yet the price rules are still not applying, let's proceed with troubleshooting steps to address this unusual behavior of the program. Open a private browsing window. You can use the following keyboard shortcuts for popular browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once you have opened the browser window, log in to your QuickBooks account and check if price rules are now working. If it is, proceed to clear your browser's cache

This process will help eliminate any errors or glitches that may be occurring in the system. Alternatively, you can use other devices and supported browsers to ensure everything works as expected.

I've included a link that covers all the tasks you can do when using the customer feature: Topics about your company's income and customers.

You can always get in touch with us for assistance in managing the prices of your products and services. Our team is always available to help.

I did as you suggested and checked the price rules. All is correct and additionally I am the only one with access and I am quite certain I made no changes. It just stopped working after the 'wonderful developers' made their most recent update.

I also did as you suggested and used a private window in Google Chrome to test the usage after checking the configuration above. Nothing behaved differently. It continues to ignore the Price Rules that have been working for 2 years flawlessly.

I am open to suggestions on how to get this very important feature to work as it used to.

Have you found a solution to this issue? I'm having the same problem and QB hasn't been able to provide a solution.

We appreciate your time in joining and for posting your inquiry about using price rules for sales receipts, smarti1512. I understand that you want to use this functionality for enhanced efficiency in your workflow.

As shared in previous responses, price rules are currently applicable to invoices and estimates within QBO. This means that it can't be used when creating sales receipts at this time.

For now, you can manually change the rate or amount of the items when creating sales receipts.

You can also consider using third-party apps that offer additional features for sales receipts. Just go to the Apps menu and proceed to the Find apps tab.

Feel free to check out these articles in case you need more guidance and resources when creating sales receipts in QBO:

@JenoP   RE: I would recommend reaching out to our support team about the issue with the price rules.

You would, except for what? You don't mention.

And, by the way, you appear to be part of the support team you seem to be trying to suggest we contact. So that makes no sense at all!

Why is it that three employees have replied to this thread and you all say something different, and somehow manage to make it worse?  You collectively made various clams that appear false, and now you just punt?

Here's a suggestion: Find out what is wrong / what has happened. Then reply and let us all know what that is and when it will be fixed.

Having the same issue. Also, the only one with access. They worked find before the update. (don't like the new layout at all but that's not my issue)

WHAT THE F!? Can't even go back to the old invoice layout to be able to use rules. What a massively stupid update!! This was obviously not thought out very well. Please give us back the old layout. PRICE RULES are a must! (FACEPALM)

How can we escalate this problem???

This changeover only removed features from the invoice layout. We are also unable to "Make A Copy" from within the new layout as well. "Print and download" opens in another tab instead of within the same window requiring a back and forth changeover. Most importantly, we need price rules back. What is the purpose of being able to create price rules if we are unable to apply them?

@lteruya1 All of these issues have already been documented here on this message board. People have "escalated" the situation through the useless "Feedback" feature that the Quickbooks team here tells everyone to use. So they are aware. They've known for months how horribly these changes break their product, particularly the removal of price rules from invoices which I know has had an issue "Ticket" assigned to it for about a year. They are not interested in fixing it.

Quickbooks has signaled that it is not going to improve. Other accounting software programs out there are fortunately filling the void.

It is essential for us to have price rules on Invoices. When are you going to fix it?

May 13, 2024

I acknowledge how this feature is essential for your business needs, Epygi. In QuickBooks Online, you can still create price rules. However, applying them to the invoice in the new layout experience is unavailable.

We don't have a specific timeframe for when this feature will be available in the new invoice experience. Our dedicated product development team will review your feedback and work on this concern. Your input is highly valued and appreciated.

See the attached screenshot below if you want to send feedback.

As a workaround, you can manually calculate the discount, create a service item for the markup, and then add it to your invoice.

To set up a service item:

  1. Hover to the Sales menu and click the Products & services tab.
  2. Select New, then choose Service. Type in your preferred discount name.
  3. Enter the discount price or rate in the Sales price/rate section. (Ex. -0.10 for 1%).
  4. Pick Edit sales tax, then set the service item to Non-Taxable. Hit Done
  5. Afterward, Save and close.

Now, let's add the discount item each time you select a product on the invoice page. Please see the attached screenshot for visual reference.

Another alternative is to look for third-party apps that offer this feature as an alternative solution.

Here's how to access it in your product:

  1. Click Apps from the left panel, then go to the Find Apps tab.
  2. From the search bar, type in the keyword to look for an app.
  3. Once done, you can choose an app from the lists that suits your business needs.

Rest assured that you can now work on your invoices promptly with the workaround provided. I'm always here to give any assistance you may need.

@ShyMae We have all been submitting to the feedback multiple times a day and made phone calls to "Priority Circle".  Please stop repeatedly telling us to give feedback when WE are not even being listened to. Maybe there needs to be a class action??

Here to agree and re-iterate what others on this thread are saying about the new invoice layout.  This is an unbelievably frustrating update that just ruined the ability to quickly make an invoice.  Price rules area must and the fact that we now need to hand enter them is a huge waste of time and energy.  The old invoicing worked and we liked it, for the most part.  Now between the price rules and sales tax issues our ability to accurately and quickly create invoices has become tedious, inaccurate, and frustrating.  Fix this please.  And QB Team, do not give any more asinine recommendations on using third parties for this feature.  Your update sucks.  It's a time suck.  These are all complaint that were submitted in the beta release ad you paid attention to none of them.

This is sort of an old thread but the only one I found when I had this problem. I could not get my price rules to work either once they updated to the new invoice format. Talking to QBO rep and just by chance got it to work for us. What I did that may help some of you save the frustration later, it may not work for you but it did for us.

1st open an invoice - chances are you are using the old format that is now not compatible with the price rules any more.

2nd Click the "update invoice" to switch to the new invoice format, for us it kept kicking us out every time I tried. It got really frustrating for a few but if you click that then hurry and hit another button with in the new invoice format prior to it kicking you out then you should be able to save and update and everything will work. This must be a glitch with in the update, not really sure.

The new format is different and it will get some getting use to, but however it should fix your problem if you are having the same issue as we did. I did tell QBO rep that they should look in to that and get the word out so that no one will have to deal with it as we did, and obviously several others as I have, as I have been reading through the feedback here. Good Luck.

OMG! I am so happy to have found this thread! Your work around has saved us! I have had nothing but incompetence trying to get help with the 'experts' since price rules stopped working for us on July 30th! But your trick is doing the trick!
