Convenience Fees - No Longer Available?

I was just chatting with a QBO representative over the phone a couple weeks ago. They said that Convenience Fees were now working again as of December 2021. When I went to start invoicing today, I noticed that Convenience Fee's are no longer an option with online payments. Where did the convenience fees feature go? Why do you not have it anymore? It disappeared on the invoices and disappeared in the Sales settings.

Convenience Fees feature worked great through 2020 and up until February/March 2021 when y'all discontinued the feature. I was so happy to hear that y'all brought it back in December 2021, but why is it gone again? Is February cursed for the convenience fees feature?

We literally only turned online payments back on because we heard it was up and running again. Are you going to bring it back??? Please do.

Hi there, @fix-please.

I appreciate you reaching out to us in the Community and sharing the details of your concern. I'm here to provide information about the convenience fees in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The convenience fee is a beta feature that allows QBO to calculate and add the amount automatically. We're unable to continue to roll it out in this format due to requirements from the card brand network. Please know that we're looking for an alternative way to offer this feature ongoing in the future.

In the meantime, you'll want to create a service item for the convenience fee and manually add it as a line item on your customer's invoice as a workaround.

Here's how:

  1. In QBO, go to the Gear icon at the top right, then select Products and Services
  2. Select the New button. And choose Service.
  3. Enter the name of the service item (Convenience Fee).
  4. Choose the account used for the convenience fee.
  5. Click Save and Close.

I can see how having this option would be helpful for you and your business. I highly suggest sending feedback directly to our product developers. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QuickBooks.

You can refer to this article for the steps on how to submit feedback: How do I submit feedback?

In case you need it, I'll add this article that tackles entering late fees in QBO: Add service fees manually to invoices.

Please let me know if you have additional questions about fees or anything else QuickBooks. I'm always ready to lend a hand. Stay safe.

I'm confused... Why would I add a convenience fee and manually add it as a line item if I'm not sure if the customer is going to pay by check? This is not a work around solution. You cannot add a convenience fee on an invoice without knowing for certain the customer wants to pay with credit card. Why would you completely take away the convenience fee option without notifying QuickBooks online account holders.  We need the convenience fee option back!

@fix-please

If the convenience/surcharge fee is critical for your business,, explore a 3rd party payment processor or merchant service. Are you running a B2B or B2C company?

Who would you recommend? My understanding is that Bill.com can integrate directly with QBO.

Why did they turn this off? This is a huge inconvenience and you did not even communicate with QKBK users that you were turning this feature off.  This needs to be turned back on ASAP.

I'm not sure but I can't agree more. QuickBooks should have gave some warning and or provided an alternative. There is no solution. Most of the people at QuickBooks have no idea what they are doing, so you don't really get much help. Hopefully they can turn that feature back on or offer a fix.
