We have QuickBooks Desktop and are wanting to process a sales receipt and process a payment using a credit card terminal.  How do we get a terminal and how to use/setup with desktop sales receipt.  We would like to use the swiped rate on a credit card sale not keyed.

It's great to have you with us, Brita2. When purchasing the card reader, it's important to ensure that you have a QuickBooks Payment account.

Currently, QuickBooks Desktop doesn't have terminal swiping for card readers. To check the availability of card readers, you can check this article here: QuickBooks Payments card reader features and compatibility. Afterward, when you're planning to purchase a card reader in QuickBooks GoPayment. You can check this one: Order a card reader for QuickBooks GoPayment.

Additionally, here's how to connect your card reader.

Here's how:

  1. Turn on the card reader.
  2. Connect the card reader to the computer with the provided USB cable.
  3. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Use the Card Reader to process in-person payments.

For more details, you may check this guide: Take and process payments in QuickBooks Desktop.

We do have quickbooks payment account.  We want to hook a card reader directly to our computer desktop to process a swiped card.  We are looking at the below see our attachment.  This clearly states it should work exactly like we are wanting through a sales receipt within Desktop Quickbooks software.  Please advise.

Thank you for providing a screenshot of the card reader you're eyeing, Brita2. I'm glad to share the steps to connect the QuickBooks Chip and Magstripe Card Reader to your computer's desktop.

You chose the correct card reader that works with QuickBooks Desktop 2021 or newer with a micro-USB cable. It accepts EMV chip cards, and debit and credit cards with magstripe.

Please link your Payments account to QuickBooks Desktop first. Once done, connect the card reader using the micro-USB cable included. To learn more about how it works, scroll down on this website for the contact number of our Sales Team.

For complete details on taking payments, refer to this article: Process payments with the QuickBooks Card Reader.

If you wish to purchase a device for your business on the go, check out this reference: Set up a card reader for QuickBooks GoPayment.

I'm always available if you have other questions concerning the card reader. Just add them below and I'll be here to address them for you. Take care.
