Deleted transaction

I paid a bill with credits from vendor. Unfortunately, the bill had to be paid via check. I went to check register and deleted the transaction instead of deleting the payment. Now, the bill still shows as a ‘paid’ bill and I can’t find the credit. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

I appreciate you for laying out the details of your concern, @Jennybermeo22. I'm here to assist you with your concern, so you'll be able to sort out this issue with your deleted transaction in QuickBooks Desktop.

 

Beforehand, there are instances when you record the bill as paid, you'll need to void or delete the check payment due to some issues. Please consider the following before doing so:

 

  • Voiding changes the amount of the transaction to zero but keeps a record of the transactions in QuickBooks.
  • Deleting removes the transaction entirely in QuickBooks. It also causes the bill(s) paid to return to unpaid status.
  • Deleting the bill causes the Transaction Journal Detail report to display a bill payment without the corresponding bill. Otherwise, no bill will also be associated with the payment check when you go to the transaction history.

 

To delete the bill payment check, I'll show you how:

 

  1. From the Lists menu, then Chart of Accounts.
  2. Double-click the appropriate Accounts Payable account to open its register.
  3. Go to the Accounts Payable register and select the specific bill or bill payment check.
  4. Go to the Edit menu, then Void/Delete Bill/Bill Pmt-Check.
  5. Click Record, then choose Yes to save the changes.
