I started a new Desktop file for 2025. I cannot get the Direct Deposit to work. Worked in my 2024 and older file. I did not do a file transfer. Do I need to delete something in my old file?

There's no need to delete anything, MF115. To activate direct deposit in your new company file, you'll have to enable your payroll service first. I'll guide you through the process to ensure that your company is set up correctly.

To enable direct deposit in your new company file, you must add it to your existing payroll subscription. To do so, you'll be required a service key, which you can obtain by contacting our live support team. Once you have the key, enter it into the Activate Service Key section of your new company file. To complete this, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your new QuickBooks Desktop company file.
  2. Go to Employees menu, then My Payroll Service, and Activate Service Key.
  3. select Enter Payroll Service Key, then choose Add and enter the Service Key without hyphens.
  4. If the payroll service key is already present in the company file, choose Edit instead of Add. After that, input the Service Key.
  5. Click Next, and Finish.
  6. Wait for the new Tax Table to be downloaded completely.

Moreover, if the Use My Existing Payroll service is unavailable on your new company file, you can follow the steps below to resolve this matter.

  1. Open your new company file.
  2. Download and install the latest tax table.
  3. When the update is done, close your company file.
  4. Access the company file for the EIN you wish to add to your subscription.
  5. Navigate to the Employees menu, then Payroll.
  6. Choose Use My Existing Payroll Service.
  7. Click on Add File.
