I have QB's desktop 2022.  Just received an error message when trying to post cc payments.

"Creating a customer to apply payments has caused an error."

Has anyone seen this before?

I'm here to make sure you can post credit card payments, @alliance11.

QuickBooks Payments is sensitive about payment details. So, we need to ensure the data we enter is correct to avoid any issues. Let's consider the following factors to evade errors:

  1. Make sure the credit card number and verification code (usually on the back of the card) are correct.
  2. Ensure there are no special characters or spaces in the credit card number or other data fields.
  3. Use the customer's address from the US USPS website.
  4. The name and other info should match the financial institution's record.

Did you post the Credit card payments in the Record Merchant Service Deposits screen and select the customer? If so, please make sure of the following aspects:

  1. Any merchant getting this issue is on the most recent version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Check the Customer List in QBDT. Does Other Customer exist? Are they inactive?
  3. Has the merchant edited Other Customer in some way?
  4. Can they delete the existing Other Customer, and let Merchant Service Deposits create it again?
  5. Did this ever work?

We have a website that we use the QBMS the money comes in to the merchant service but when we go to apply those payments we received the error message "Creating a customer to apply payments has caused an error.  If you see this message for more than 24 hours please contact support.

I contacted support today and spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with shared screen but no answer.

If we send the invoice through QBDT the payment comes in an applies with no issues.
