Example:  Customer has a balance of $500.00, they make a payment of $250.00, I send them the receipt and it shows a Zero balance, but if I send them the invoice again it will show on there that they owe $250.00.  How do I get the receipt to show the remaining balance?

Let me share some information about invoice partial payment, adjmom.

When sending a payment receipt, the balance will be zero because only the payment amount will be reflected in the sent transaction. We'll need to send an invoice to the customer to show the balance. In QuickBooks, we can also generate a customer statement. This shows a breakdown of their invoices, payments, credits, and balances. Here's how it's done:

  1. Go to the Sales menu, then the Customers tab.
  2. Select the checkboxes for the customers you want to make statements.
  3. In the Batch actions dropdown, choose Create statement.
  4. In the Statement Type dropdown, select Balance Forward.
  5. Select the dates for the statements and the date range.
  6. Review the customer's email addresses.
  7. Hit SaveSave and closeSave and send, or Print or Preview.
