I am not new to QB but am needing help.  Never worked on QB Desktop and I'm having trouble with adding lines to invoices.  When I create an invoice, it asks about billable expenses.  I bring those into the invoice but it I want to add another line item, it lets me add the line but doesn't allow me to enter the dollar amount.  It automatically goes to the next line.

HELP!!  I'VE LOOKED AT ALL TEMPLATES AND ALL OF THEM DO THIS.

I hear your sentiments and understand the importance of resolving this soon, movind54. I can provide troubleshooting processes to fix the issue in your invoice templates in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

We can run some basic troubleshooting steps in QBDT to trace the cause of the issue and fix it.

Let's start by updating the program to its latest release. This keeps your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes.

Once done, and you run into a similar problem, use the Verify and Rebuild Data tools. These will help us identify the most commonly known data issues within a company file and fix it.

To verify data:

  1. Go to the File menu, and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data, then tap OK to close all windows. If you see “Your data has failed the integrity check”, you'll need to rebuild your file. If there are no problems with your data, you’re done.

If there are problems with your company file, you'll have to rebuild it. Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Go to the Files menu and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Rebuild Data, and then click OK.
  3. Tap OK to make a backup to prevent data loss along the process.
  4. Hit OK to continue the rebuild process.

For a more detailed step, please go to this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists you can download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This process has a set of tools you can use to scan QuickBooks Desktop errors and quickly fix them.

  1. Close your QuickBooks.
  2. Download the recent version of QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Once the installation finishes, open the tool hub on your Windows desktop.
  6. Select Program Problems and click Quick Fix my Program.
  7. Then start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

If ever you'll encounter any other template issues in the future, you can follow the suggested steps in this article to fix them: Fix common issues when you use and customize templates
