Does anybody knows if there is a way to set up the MD withholding payments with QuickBooks desktop and MD new site MD tax connect?

Maryland hasn't been helpful and they don't answer the phones, the ones i have the client had to go in the new site and make the payment there, before it was so easy to just make the payment from the payroll liabilities in QuickBooks desktop.

Thank you!

Is it my understanding that I will no longer be able to efile MD withholding on Quickbooks and that I must now use the new MD Tax Connect website to pay withholding? Quickbooks support, please confirm!

I appreciate you for joining this thread concerning e-filing through QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @HCDB.

It's correct that Maryland withholding is moving to a new system, and customers are temporarily unable to utilize the e-file services to pay their 2024 withholding taxes. We are in communication with your state about implementing their new system through the application to enable our clients to file their taxes through our system.

For now, we're unable to provide a turnaround or when this will be available to our system. In the meantime, I'd recommend you submit your withholding taxes directly to your state offices or their new website.

Feel free to post back to this thread if you have additional questions about tax filing. I always have your back. Take care!

YES, PLEASE!

I am at the same situation with several of our clients.

Comptroller of Maryland office is just hanging up and asking to call them another time...

Just for anybody information, who is interested in paying Maryland Withholding that are due and, especially, overdue.

I was able to schedule payments through Intuit today, April 16th.

Hopefully it is not another glitch...

Fingers crossed that Intuit has fixed this issue.  Today I was wondering why I'm paying the monthly payroll fee if I can't pay our MD withholding through QB.  Should I be getting a discount?  😉

If it is not fixed by mid-May,  then we will be looking at other payroll programs

I know why you’re unable to pay your Maryland withholding taxes through their site and in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @Julissa5.

Right now, Maryland withholding is moving to a new system, and QBDT customers can’t e-file or e-pay 2024 withholding taxes. While the agency prepares the new system, customers will not be penalized for paying or filing 2024 withholding late for any payments due before they open up their new system.

Once resolved, you can watch this video tutorial to start paying payroll taxes and liabilities within the application: How to pay payroll taxes and liabilities in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

Moreover, you'll also want to scan these reports if you want to have an overview of the payroll amounts and tax balances:

State of Maryland is still rejecting my payments as of March 15th.  I've signed up for the Maryland tax connect, so we're registered there.  Now what?

February 29, 2024

I tried to submit the taxes via QB and succeeded yesterday.  However today I got the email that MD rejected my payments.

After that there was a follow up from QB saying

"QuickBooks rejected your Maryland Withholding Payment as the Department of Revenue is not yet ready to accept payments in their new withholding system. Please come back and resubmit your payment in early to mid-March. There will not be any penalties for late payments due to this delay.

We will communicate with your business once the agency is ready to accept payments."

I guess we have to be patient.

My tax payments (weekly) continue to be rejected and supposedly they started accepting payment already.   And I can find no answers on how to resolve this

It is impossible to pay Maryland Withholding and I am very concerned...

Today's message is

"

Welcome to Maryland Tax Connect! Maryland Tax Connect is currently down for maintenance. Please check back later. We apologize for the inconvenience. For additional information please go to www.marylandtaxes.gov/MDTaxConnect.

For assistance, please email us at [email address removed] or contact Taxpayer Services Monday-Friday, "8:30AM-4:30PM at [removed]"

However, when I was trying to call many many times I was getting  the same message that they are not able to answer a call at this time due to a higher than normal amount of calls. No matter what time I have tried.

It is a "Catch 22"....

Even their email address is not valid at this time!

Sounds like we are all in the same boat playing the waiting game.  I've tried to pay on MD Tax Connect and January 2024 is not an option only months in 2023.  Extremely frustrating!

Currently, the only way that you can submit is via having your client Grant you full access.Howver ,

  1. you have to sign up and provide your clients your username and confirmation ID which is usually a TU0000XXX number.
  2. Next, they have to use the manage user and add an authorized users and enter your credential. then grant you full access for all services. but they have to indicate the period from 01-01-2024 to anytime in future (recommend 10 years).
  3. once you log in to the Maryland connect, then you have to see your client's name in your portal, then you go to form processing and drop down and you will see you client again.
  4. Next, you have to manually process the payment for withholding or sales tax.

hope this give some guideline to this disastrous system.   this is what you get when you  bring a comptroller in place which has no background experience on software and accounting.

Maryland's data base is on two different Locations ( Annapolis and Preston Street) and these two data sites do not synch with each other. this is the reason that whenever you visited the  Preston street, they had to manually enter any adjustment and hoping that someone at Annapolis would see the notation and make the adjustment.  now imagine, they wanted to place a portal that connect these two data bases together without any issue and right in middle of tax season.

most businesses do not even have aPIN that they are supposed to receive to even log into system and register themselves.

but the good news is that all businesses in Maryland that closed their business around 5 years ago are receiving their PIN, very interesting.

Thank you very much for the tips.

As you stated, not all of our client's businesses receive their PIN #.

I still hesitate to pay manually for the once that I have managed to registered.

I have called Intuit last week and asked them to, at least, update the message about the timeline...

The web site is a joke. And they still not answering the phone due to "higher than normal amount of calls".

I wonder why...

April 4, 2024

Some Good News,  they have extended the penalty and interest to May 2024 . so, you have some time to finish the tax season and plenty of time for them to follow up and pay the withholding. The only issue now is that most clients spent the money and do not have money to pay the withholding.

April 16, 2024

After trying almost every other day and the systems appears to be accepting the withholding now.  Today is 4/16/24.  It was not working as of yesterday.  Let's hope it goes through!  Good Luck!

April 22, 2024

Did it clear?  Mine went through QB on the 16th but as of today has not been taken out of our bank account.  No rejection email yet either.

April 24, 2024

I paid our MD withholding for January and February on 4/17 and it should have been withdrawn on 4/18. It's now 4/24 and the money still hasn't been withdrawn. According to QB the payments went through, but when I log into MD Tax Connect it says "Underpaid" for each return that I filed and shows the account balance due as the total amount of all the returns. I contacted QB and after a lengthy conversation they directed me to call the State of MD because they said if I paid it through MD Tax Connect I'd be duplicating the payments. When i try to pay the return in MD Tax Connect I get a warning that I'm trying to make a duplicate return/payment. I've been stuck on hold trying to get through to hopefully get some answers.

Welcome to the thread, Katia1.

You can void the rejected MD payments so they'll go back to the Liabilities to pay.

To do this, here's how:

  1. From the Employees menu, select Payroll Taxes and Liabilities.
  2. Choose Pay Scheduled Liabilities.
  3. Go to the Pay Liabilities tab.
  4. In the Payment History section, select the All Payments tab.
  5. Locate the rejected payment, then double-click the check to open it.
  6. Click the Delete drop-down, then select Void.
  7. Select Save & Close when you're done.

That's it! The rejected tax payment will now show up in the Pay Taxes & Other Liabilities section.

Does anyone know the User Id and Registration Confirmation Number for QuickBook's Maryland account? These are the two pieces of information that are needed when you try and add QuickBooks as an authorized user in the Maryland Tax Connect system. I am on the phone with QuickBooks and they don't know what I am talking about. They provided detailed instructions for how to do this for the unemployment insurance.

Good Afternoon:

If you are using QuickBooks desktop (accountant edition, you will not need any credential other than your client CR # to process payroll tax.

what you a rereferring is new Maryland tax connect poral. on this portal, you will have to register your company first, and have username and Confirmation number that starts with TU000xxxxx (everyone is unique)  .

Then your client has to go through the same registration process.  they will then need to go to their profile and add an Authorized user which requires your username and Confirmation number which you need to provide to them and assign and grant you full authorization.

Then you will be able to log into your own poral as an accountant and see all your clients and process any tax manually Such as sales tax, Maryland withholding tax, etc..

The following is an email that i sent to my client to help them with guideline to help them with this crazy process.  hope it helps.

the username in my guideline is your username and your confriamtion number is your confiramtion number. i highlighted them in red fro example since each accoutnat username andconfrimation number is unique, you need to provide yours to yourcleints.
