Hello! Newbie, possibly posting in the wrong place, so please let me know if I need to redirect this somewhere else.

I'd like to upgrade from QuickBooks self-employed to quickbooks online. But when I do upgrade, I want to be sure I have customer statement functionality -- so I can do this: Create and send customer statements in QuickBooks Online

What's the minimum level I should upgrade to? Does "Simple Start" have this?

Thanks!

Hi there, mb-mathballoon-c.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. Let me share some insights on how migrating from QuickBooks Self Employed to QuickBooks Online works. Then, I'll ensure you can utilize the feature with customer statements in QBO.

There are different features you can use in every version of QuickBooks. Since QuickBooks Simple start allows you to create and receive payments, yes, creating and sending customer statements is available in the Simple Start version. Also, possible for QuickBooks Essential, Plus, and Advanced.

On the other hand, please know that QBO and QBSE are two different products and there isn't an option to automatically convert the data into one another. With this, you'll have to export the file from QBSE and import it into a QBO version.

To start with, download all of your work from QuickBooks Self-Employed. This is a good idea to hold on to your work for your records.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
  2. In the Tax details section, choose a tax year.
  3. Select Download to get a Tax Details report.
  4. Download a report for each tax year you have in QuickBooks.
  5. Repeat the following actions above for your Profit and LossMileage Log, and Receipts.

After that, you can now begin transferring your data to QuickBooks Online. You can open this article to see steps on how to perform the process and extra information on how it works: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, you'll have to make sure that you cancel your QBSE account to avoid getting billed twice.

Lastly, I'm adding this article to further guide you in effectively managing your business using QBO: Help guide for QuickBooks Online. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, and payments to name a few.
