Has anyone had issue's about posting a payment on account on a client workstation and the payment not posting to the server or data base.  If a customer pays their account on the client station, then charges another sales receipt on  a different workstation, during the same day, sometimes the payment will not show up on the account.  This has happened several times, a glitch maybe,  can you help me with this issue please?

Welcome to the Community, PatRob.

There's a few things that can cause issues while using multi-user mode:

  • QuickBooks isn't installed on the server.
  • The hosting settings aren't set up properly.
  • Windows file permissions aren't properly configured.
  • The database server is unable to open your company file.
  • Firewall or antivirus software isn't allowing communication between computers.

Initially, I'd recommend checking the folder permissions on your server computer and confirming the folder holding your company file(s) has permission to be on the network.

Next, make sure that your QuickBooks Database Server Manager is installed on the server computer. This way, your company file data will be shared with other computers over the network.

You'll also want to check your Windows admin rights. This lets you change firewall settings and folder permissions.

When you've finished each of these processes, you can scan the folder using your Database Server Manager, then turn on hosting from the server computer:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to File, then Utilities.
  2. Select Host Multi-User Access and click Yes.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with multi-user mode which may come in handy moving forward:

I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have a lovely Friday!
